What time do you go to bed?

I'm beginning to think that I've got days and nights mixed up.
Especially during these short winter days.
Thank God I've still got a husband and he goes out every morning before 7am and we get up around 5-6 in preparation.
So by now I'm thinking of having supper of toast and jam and going to bed. We have our main meal at lunchtime.
I do read in bed for an hour or so.
Are we abnormal?

Bedtime for me is approx.10:30, then I read for about an hour.
Usually get up about 8:30.

On weekdays, Husband brings me a cup of tea at 6.50am and we read papers in bed until 7.45. Grandkids arrive at 7.50am. They play and then my husband gets them breakfast whilst I shower and dress. We walk them to school and collect them at 3.15. I like to snuggle down in bed at 10pm (after snoozing on the settee probably).

I don`t wear a watch, bedtime depends on the season and right now, in winter, I start to close down at 9pm so I go up. Getting ready for bed wakens me a bit and I have talking radio on low, set the radio for 40 or 50 minutes, I don`t usually hear it stop. Awake at 3 for the loo and to eat an oatcake and then flat out until 7. A good 8 hours sleep in winter. Its a different way of life for me during winter, I hibernate and get busy with quiet hobbies

I go when I am tired but that is never before 10.30 I usually set alarm for 7.30. You have to do what suits your lifestyle. We are all different.

Bikergran, that's very early. Dont you watch TV?

Janiepops Tue 21-Jan-20 11:48:07

I’ve tried many many times to change but always go back to my body clock.
Go up before midnight, play mahjong and solitaire till 1.30/2.00am, sleep till 10, husband brings tea about half ten, then I sit up, read papers on iPad,and up for breakfast by 11.30/12.00.
As a neandathal, I must have been the one keeping the fire going at the mouth of the cave!!

I'm definitely a 'seasonal' sleeper. Kinda hibernate in the winter - 2100ish to 1000ish in bed. Spring and summer long warm days see me up and about 0500ish and in bed towards midnight. Strangely, I don't feel at all tired with many fewer hours of sleep. Often wondered about this but don't even attempt to try understanding. C'est la vie.

To each their own, I never go to bed before 1 and then I read before I sleep and get up at 9 every day, Its what suits me now. When working went to bed at 12 read then got up at 7, It depends on how much sleep you need and you schedule. Need not concern anyone else

Fennel Tue 21-Jan-20 11:28:54

Paperbackwriter you're right, but when he gets up and puts the light on , that's it for my sleep. So I think I might as well get up too.
And he likes a kiss before he goes out.

Grannytwo Tue 21-Jan-20 11:28:05

We go to bed about 9.15 and hubby gets up at 5 and takes our dog for a walk, I get up about 6.30. Hubby is a morning person !

Paperbackwriter Tue 21-Jan-20 11:14:54

I'm a bit confused. It's your husband who goes out before 7am, right? So why do YOU have to get up at 5 - 6 am? Can't you just carry on sleeping for a bit? Or am I missing something?

rosemarigold Tue 21-Jan-20 10:54:56

Glad I'm not the only one bluebirdwsm ....wishing you (and I) better night's ❇️???

After a lifetime of getting up at the crack of dawn to work on our smallholding (cutting lettuce most of the day) I now go to bed late and get up whenever I feel like it! That said , during the summer months I like to be up early, especially if the weather’s good.

I usually go up at about ten, leaving my other half to watch the news - either doom and gloom or brexit or Megangate, and of no interest, but then I read my kindle in bed, often to midnight or beyond. I don't get up until 8:30 or 9. We all sleep around the different timetables of life - there is no 'normal'.

Mollyplop Tue 21-Jan-20 10:50:41

I'm normally in bed between 8 and 8.30 and read for an hour in the winter. I'm up 5.30 - 6 am. I too LOVE my bed. I've got a 12 cm deep duck down topper and it's so snuggly.

Lupin Tue 21-Jan-20 10:50:26

Relax, and do what your lifestyle will allow you to do. Do what is normal for you.
I feel I'm turning back into a teenager - going to bed in the early hours and getting up late - because I can.

optimist Tue 21-Jan-20 10:46:43

Most evenings I start preparing for bed around 8.30 pm and am in bed by 9 pm then I read or listen to podcasts until around 10 pm. Suits me.

HillyN Tue 21-Jan-20 10:46:28

Another night owl here. If I have nothing to get up for next day then I don't get to bed until around 1a.m. and wake around 9a.m. If I do have to be out earlier then I set an alarm for 8- 8.30a.m. and make an effort to get to bed before midnight.

henetha Tue 21-Jan-20 10:33:08

I get ready for bed about 11 ish, then read or play games on my phone for an hour or so. I'm always up before 8 in the morning, can't see any point in getting up earlier these days.

essjay Tue 21-Jan-20 10:26:12

bikergran am so with you. i tend to go bed quite early, quite often in bed by 7, thought i was odd, but find it much more comfortable as i also tire easily nowadays. i am up early 5 days a week for work and grandchild minding so the 2 days am not up early are heavenly. am looking forward to not be ruled by the clock!

Greyduster Tue 21-Jan-20 10:20:49

Not usually any later than ten thirty, then I read a book to wind down. It’s unusual for me not to have to get up in the night, which is why I hate staying with people - even family. They can do without two old fogies clattering about in the middle of the night! I’m usually lucky enough to get back to sleep straight away, but sometimes things just come crowding in and you’ve had it for sleep.

sazz1 Tue 21-Jan-20 10:18:54

Bed around 1-2 am then up around 9-10. I'm a night owl.

Twopence Tue 21-Jan-20 10:14:16

Bed about 8.30pm, then read for a bit. Morning cuppa at 5am, when the cat joins us. Up at 6am.

Mapleleaf Tue 21-Jan-20 10:07:29

It varies with me, but on the whole I tend to go to bed between 10.30/11 pm, and usually read for a while - this can vary from just 10 minutes reading to a couple of hours!
I tend to wake around 8.30, but set the alarm if I need to be up and about earlier (like today, for example).
So, I don't think there's a "normal" as such, but rather we settle to routines that suit us.
