I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

Most of you are Well this confirms what I had been thinking that most of you are younger than me.I will be 85 in May, my youngest grandchild is 15 ,the other four are now over 18. I am on my own and in isolation ,my grandchildren are wonderful in that they have all been messaging me ,sending photos, videos and phoning, likewise their parents. A clap clap to all the parents and grandchildren supporting us.

I will be 61 in May and my first and only grandchild will be 3 in July. Joined to see how grandparents fared generally and found a lot,of useful information on this site.

I'm (very nearly) 68 and became a gran at 62: I started late but my youngest DD started early!

I became a granny aged 66. Two GDs now 14 and 10. They are such a joy and turned our lives upside down in the best possible way. Normally see them weekly and sorely missing RL contact with them.

The years seem to have wizzed by and I am now 70. DD2 who was on MN told me about GN and I joined under a different name 9yrs ago. I do miss some of our regular posters who no longer post. I have also met a few members and enjoyed meeting them.

I've been using this site for about a month ever since I was on my own. Just for a little social contact and you've all been fabulous. Thanks! I'm 66 now, and I was a Nan at 43.

I was 58 when our first GC arrived. I was newly retired so perfect timing. I joined GN a few years later when I had some family issues. A friend recommended this to me, and it was good to know that others go through exactly the same kind of problems. All happily resolved now. I did briefly join MN but soon realised that I am of a different generation to most of the members there!!

I'm probably among the top 10% or so of us at 81. First grandchild at 56 when I was still working full time and considered myself MUCH too young to be a Grannie. DGCs aged between 4 and 25 (6 in total between my two children). Can't remember how long I've been on Gransnet, formerly mostly lurking rather than posting, but it's generally a delight.

First GC at 43, joined GN about 5 years ago because I had been on MN and saw some GN posts somewhere that looked interesting...

ayokunmi1 Fri 03-Apr-20 12:25:36

No grandchildren yet 53 and really enjoy the forum

Thisismyname1953 Fri 03-Apr-20 12:26:06

I’m 66. My first dgd was born when I was 51 and the second was born on my 52nd birthday. The best birthday present ever and as I live with her family we get to celebrate together every year smile

I became a gran at 46 and have 3 beautiful little grandbabies... Im now 52 and joined Gransnet because I wanted to have somewhere I could get advice and a giggle!! Im a busy granny and love crafts (I teach crochet) and my garden ... I find gransnet very much a group for us 'go-getting' older ladies who dont want to be the invisible generation!

travelsafar Fri 03-Apr-20 12:31:05

I am almost 68 oldest GC is 21, then 18 and 10

Hert2Hart Fri 03-Apr-20 12:33:39

I heard about Gransnet on Woman's Hour a little while ago so decided to give it a go. I'm 66 and became a Nan at 64. I was 29 when I had our first daughter after treatment for infertility. She was 35 when she had our GD and said she would be- now that's planning!

Bamm Fri 03-Apr-20 12:35:22

I am 73, my first grandchild was born when I was 64 and the second when 66. My eldest son has no children.
Joined Gransnet to hear from other grans.

I had a very quiet 79th birthday on Mothering Sunday. I have 9 grandchildren nicely spread out from 1996 until the last 3 born within 7 weeks in 2007. 6 of them live quite close, 1 about 80 miles away and 2 of them 6000 miles away.

Heather51 Fri 03-Apr-20 12:37:16

I am 69 with two grandchildren aged 4 and 2. Love GN and have learnt a lot from other grans on it.
