I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I'm 67, first grandchild at 54 and most recent (of nine) at 65. I really enjoy Gransnet- think I joined more than five years ago, can't recall actually! I find that it's pitched just right and isn't 'in your face' as my kids would say! Lots of interesting things to read on almost any subject under the sun and help and advice when asked for! Perfick! smile

Our eldest grandson is now 28 and youngest 22
We were just 52 when first grandchild came along now 80.

We were thrilled
I was in a meeting of headteachers when the message came through and I just interrupted it and said "I am a grandma" and everyone clapped!! Makes me cringe thinking about it now but so many shared their grandparent memories after the meeting so maybe it didn't really matter I couldn't hold back my joy.

My Mum has me when she was 30, I had my older daughter when I was 30, and she had her daughter, my first grandchild when she was 30. So I was 60, now 76 as of 3 days ago, and have 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. I joined Gransnet a few years ago, can’t remember exactly when, after coming across a mention of it online. I like the chats, debates, recipes, hints and tips and competitions! All of GN really!

I am 81 and have 4 grandchildren 20, 18, 16, 15 and now live in a retirement apartment near the town centre, which is nice as I can still go out for walks without hardly meeting anyone

Hello all, I am 59...It has just occurred to me that I am a professional lurker...but then, I am like that in real life: quite quiet, I suppose!?
I have 4 grandchildren aged from 12years to 10 months old.
It is not often that I post.
I have never posted on MN; they frighten the life out of me! ?

I was 68 with my first GD and at 71 had 2 GS 3 days apart 2nd one from daughter and first for son. I joined Gransnet after my first and I also belong to Mumsnet. Find the daily subjects very interesting and time consuming! I am always recommending it to friends.

I gave birth to our only child when I was 38 so consequently was 71 when the first of our two grandchildren were born - unfortunately they live in Canada - I joined Granset when someone told me that I would probably hear how other people cope with long distance grandparenting (in other words, seeing them only once a year - the virus scuppered the March visit to see the 4 month old for the first time).

Hi I became a grandma at 41. My grandchildren are 9 and 4.
It's my birthday on Tuesday I will be 51. I'm sad that I won't spend my birthday with them and my daughter's xx

I am 68 and became a Nanny 7 years ago. I now have 2 beautiful grandsons and a baby granddaughter 5 weeks old, so only cuddled her for 2 of those weeks before lockdown. They only live 5 mins away so know they are close by. I have been reading Gransnet for a few years but only starting posting on Good Morning thread around a year ago. A lovely way to know what other grans are up to.

Phoebes Fri 03-Apr-20 12:41:43

I have 2 step-grandchildren a boy aged 7 and a girl aged nearly 5 and one gorgeous baby grandson of 9 months. I’m 77 and was a very late starter as I was 43 when our daughter was born after several miscarriages.

Rondy Fri 03-Apr-20 12:40:29

I was 49 when becoming a grandad, I am now 73 and have a few great children.

My first grandchild was born when I was 42, I'm now 62. and by now have 6 grandchildren ranging from 20 down to 6. They all live in a 6 mile radius and 2 go to the same school that I work in. I'm missing them desperately during this social distancing period.

I am 69 with two grandchildren aged 4 and 2. Love GN and have learnt a lot from other grans on it.

I had a very quiet 79th birthday on Mothering Sunday. I have 9 grandchildren nicely spread out from 1996 until the last 3 born within 7 weeks in 2007. 6 of them live quite close, 1 about 80 miles away and 2 of them 6000 miles away.

Bamm Fri 03-Apr-20 12:35:22

I am 73, my first grandchild was born when I was 64 and the second when 66. My eldest son has no children.
Joined Gransnet to hear from other grans.

Hert2Hart Fri 03-Apr-20 12:33:39

I heard about Gransnet on Woman's Hour a little while ago so decided to give it a go. I'm 66 and became a Nan at 64. I was 29 when I had our first daughter after treatment for infertility. She was 35 when she had our GD and said she would be- now that's planning!

travelsafar Fri 03-Apr-20 12:31:05

nikyq Fri 03-Apr-20 12:29:19

I became a gran at 46 and have 3 beautiful little grandbabies... Im now 52 and joined Gransnet because I wanted to have somewhere I could get advice and a giggle!! Im a busy granny and love crafts (I teach crochet) and my garden ... I find gransnet very much a group for us 'go-getting' older ladies who dont want to be the invisible generation!

Thisismyname1953 Fri 03-Apr-20 12:26:06

I’m 66. My first dgd was born when I was 51 and the second was born on my 52nd birthday. The best birthday present ever and as I live with her family we get to celebrate together every year smile
