We have Dgs4 (8) and dgd (7) here. Dgd was upset about his parent's divorcing 4 years ago. He loves his stepfather but sometimes has these wobbles.

I was hugging him and he suddenly said that I smell like an old lady.

I'm hoping it was perfume and nothing else!!

My current perfume is Aromatics by Clinique - suggestions please.

Try "Far Away" from Avon, it's lovely.

So Kittylester did you expect your innocuous question to come up with names of suggested perfumes, or a discussion as to whether we smell of this stuff called 'nonenal' and need persimmon soap?
My old Gran used to say only dirty people use perfume - this may have been true when she was young at the turn of the century and hot showers were practically unknown, but its stayed with me and I seldom use perfume.
Have you chosen a new perfume?

Do you know the bodysprays in NEXT are delightful ..my twin daughters in it twenties use them especially in the summer months ...I do too now.I especially like the Eau Nude range the spray is only £4 & has matching body lotion that is rich & creamy..we always get positive comments when worn.

I have worn Estee Lauder White Linen for years. I have never anyone object to it, but at this point I no longer can smell it myself. I think I want to try something new but when I put on anything else I cannot wait to wash it off. Or worse, I get a headache. Most of the modern scents just smell chemical to me. I remember years ago, and I am really dating myself, I wore Shalimar. Of course right now the thought of going into a store to try on perfume is so far from reality, but maybe in the future.

Red tea (thé rouge) by Bvlgari.

J52 has it! Spring Jean Patou "Joy", summer Hermes "Faubourg", winter Chanel "Coco Coco". All lovely classic perfumes for grown up women. On the other hand at 82, I find the simple fragrance of Lavender and Geranium shower gel seems to please my family. I grow lots of "Grosso Lavender" in my garden from which I make full size pillow inserts to include with the normal pillow in protectors. My bedroom smells like a heavenly summer garden all day long. I also do this with smaller cushion inserts so when sitting in my armchair the same delicious smell surrounds me. Absolute heaven!

Love Aromatique Elixir and Amirage by Givenchy. NOT old lady scents at all.
Perhaps there is something in what Rockgran posted!

My DD, aged 45, also loves Lavender - she comments it smells so clean and fresh.

Sadly I’m very sensitive to what seems like hundreds of smells - perfume, aftershave, candles, pot pourri, household products etc. It can make life very awkward, going to the theatre for example- remember those good old days- and sitting by someone wearing a heavy cologne. Used to love the Estee Lauder perfumes - Youth Dew was a particular favourite even when I was much younger - but now I can only wear Anais Anais. Hope they never discontinue it !!! And if it makes me smell old ladyish I cant do much a about it Have been known to wear OHs Givenchy Gentleman and Cool Water. And to “ dispose” of some of OHs musky aftershaves ??.

Lizzy53 Fri 14-Aug-20 15:38:20

Issey myake gold absolute- just love it ?

elaine655 Fri 14-Aug-20 16:23:41

She by YSL, beautiful

nomoreusernames Fri 14-Aug-20 17:13:15

Perfume never lasted on me until I tried Prada Amber, I have no idea how to describe its aroma except it isn't floral or heavily musky. It's expensive but I never buy it I ask for it for birthday and Xmas. Perhaps another poster could describe its perfume if they use it. smile

I used to love Youth Dew but DH asked me to stop using it as apparently 'all' his female patients wore it and he wanted a change when he got home.

Chewbacca Fri 14-Aug-20 17:23:42

Ah Youth Dew! Just one sniff of that and I'm back to the 80s! Happy memories!

Shirls52000 Fri 14-Aug-20 17:40:50

I love Chanel Allure and there are a few Bulgari ones that are nice plus I like Paco Rabane Lady Million. I was given Ester Lauder Youth Dew by my elderly dads elderly partner and the smell was so revolting I had to give it away to charity, that’s a definite old lady smell ?

TerriBull Fri 14-Aug-20 17:44:38

Youth Dew, the perfume of youth! I do remember being a teenager and whenever we all went out "up town top ranking" reeking of the stuff, couldn't dance around a handbag without it, positively held us up! What was it about Youth Dew that attracted so many young women to it? Our male counterparts doused themselves in "Brut" if I remember rightly grinA couple of years later when I'd embraced my inner hippy going to as many rock festivals as I could afford, I believe "Oil of Patchouli" was the potion we all wore, a quite overpowering scent that hung in the air, it never smelt quite right, or maybe that was some other questionable omnipresent odour that hung in the air around those times shock

Tedd1 Fri 14-Aug-20 17:46:10

La Vie est belle by Lancôme. Lovely!

Gossamerbeynon1945 Fri 14-Aug-20 17:57:12

Femme by Rochas - lovely!

123kitty Fri 14-Aug-20 18:11:31

Somebody wanted to know what old people smell like. There's an oil (better not name it) it's a pinky/peach colour and recommended for rubbing on scars and stretch marks - that's definitely the smell of old people to me.

Greciangirl Fri 14-Aug-20 18:33:49

I thought this thread was about body smells, not perfumes.

I’m sure we smell differently as we age.
Perfumes only mask the problem, that’s if you do have a problem in the first place.

annsixty Fri 14-Aug-20 18:51:28

Nowt wrong with Bio-oil 123kitty

DonnaFHSheridan Fri 14-Aug-20 18:58:33

YSL Black Opium is amazing. X

Trisha57 Fri 14-Aug-20 19:03:40

Mon Guerlain by Guerlain (obviously!) always gets compliments when I wear it. And I wouldn't be without my Jean Paul Gualtier Classique.
