How do you organize the space?

As the subject goes- how do you organize the space at home so that everything would have its place but the whole room wouldn't look like a one big dump? Whenever I try to come up with something minimalistic I end up with my belongings being placed literally everywhere grin

We cleared our second home and gave all the furniture to a charity, I think DH would have liked to squeeze some of it into the present home but I wasn't having it.
My answer to clutter is to have lots of floor to ceiling cupboards in the kitchen where equipment is stored.
