Choice of music?

Hello all,

If a man was given free rein on choice of music, and went for Cher, Donna Summer, Barbra Striesand etc, would it give you pause for thought?

(Sorry, I haven't phrased that very well blush)

confused

Me neither pinkcakes so what exactly is the point of the original post?

Fennel Sun 30-Aug-20 18:11:57

I've been puzzling over this and never thought of gay icons either - why are they?
My husband hasn't got musical bone in his body, but I still love him. He used to like Nana Mouscouri at one time because she wears glasses like his.

PinkCakes Sun 30-Aug-20 18:08:24

Illte It is quite well-known that those particular singers are icons of gay people. I couldn't give a toss if someone is gay or if they like Donna Summer and Cher.

greengreengrass Sun 30-Aug-20 17:11:45

No pause for thought. I would start dancing along.

I didn’t get it, but we live and learn. Just brought Dusty Springfield to mind, a fabulous singer.

Illte Sun 30-Aug-20 17:08:08

And what if he is? ?‍♀️

I don't get the point of the OP.

It feels a bit like sniggering at someone behind your hand to me.

PinkCakes Sun 30-Aug-20 16:57:38

I'd instantly assume he was gay

MerylStreep Sun 30-Aug-20 15:41:03

Judy Garland still hols the number 1 slot for 'Gay Icon'

TrendyNannie6 Sun 30-Aug-20 15:27:52

Its not my kind of music, but if he likes those artists he does, it wouldn’t give me pause for thought!

Jayt Sun 30-Aug-20 15:24:56

I’d think he had good taste in pop music of a certain time. If some of you grans haven’t heard of those singers you must be very young grans!

Floradora9 Sun 30-Aug-20 15:21:25

I woud have nothing in common with him so would leave .

janeainsworth Sun 30-Aug-20 15:17:19

Grumppa if that’s the case, what does it say about someone with eclectic tastes in music & enjoys anything from Beethoven & Mahler to bluegrass, soul, jazz, Latin, swing and rock’n’roll?

grumppa Sun 30-Aug-20 14:00:22

Isn’t the point of the OP to invite speculation on whether a person’s choice of music is an indication of character? Seems harmless to me. If pressed, I’d say OP’s man might not be someone I’d be spending an evening in the pub with.

janeainsworth Sun 30-Aug-20 13:27:50

Do other people’s taste in music matter, unless one is forced to listen to it oneself?
I don’t understand the OP.

grumppa Sun 30-Aug-20 13:23:05

It seems a very limited list. I review my Desert Island Discs selection (you never know!) every 10 to 15 years, and my selection of eight is much more varied than just gay icons of a certain generation.

honeyrose Sun 30-Aug-20 12:37:30

Aaah! I didn’t realise they were gay icons either. I’ve led a sheltered life! Xx

Illte Sun 30-Aug-20 09:57:47

Hmm. Now I have to ask exactly what you meant by "pause for thought"?

timetogo2016 Sun 30-Aug-20 09:51:57

Well MerylStreep, you have taught me something today,i didn`t know they were gay icons.

Oopsminty Sun 30-Aug-20 09:06:59

MerylStreep

They are all gay icons if that means anything.

Oh of course! Maybe it does mean something.

That didn't enter my head

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 30-Aug-20 09:05:10

I'd perhaps think that his musical taste wasn't very deep or varied. No Pink Floyd, Ella Fitzgerald, Eagles, Beatles? And yes they most definitely are gay icons.

Nortsat Sun 30-Aug-20 09:00:48

It depends upon who the man is ... and the context in which the music will be played.
If it was my partner who’d made that choice, i’d be astonished... ( it’s just not his taste ).

B9exchange Sun 30-Aug-20 08:51:00

MerylS that was what occurred to me - that you might be wasting your time with him! wink

MawB2 Sun 30-Aug-20 08:50:14

You may have hit the nail on the head!

MerylStreep Sun 30-Aug-20 08:48:23

They are all gay icons if that means anything.
