I've put on a whole load of weight with lockdown & now the temperatures are dropping I need a few new things to wear but I've no idea what colours are trendy. Any ideas?

Never ever beige!
I bought a gorgeous reversible down jacket in the late lamented Laura Ashley last autumn, one side navy and the other bright yellow with a flower pattern and every time I wear it with the yellow side out I get stopped by strangers who admire it!
I actually bought it because I wanted a navy jacket, but I hardly ever wear it that way round!
Nice bright colours are the best in the winter.

Does the fashion industry still try to push 'this season's colour'? Can't say I've seen much evidence of that lately.

Well, I am certainly not going to wear beige or puce!

Neither suit me.

I have given up following fashion - not sure really when that happened, but think it occurred when I stopped working.

I wear what I like and what I feel suits me.

Dislike taupe, I never worry about what’s in or not. Love, purple, black, sweatshirts in different colours, love my black leggings with my trainers, no crocs hate them as trainers can be worn with dresses skirts I have a lepoard skin style, & pink nike ones and black ones for walking in.
Looking to get another pair. Won’t buy much as having been at home on lockdown lot of stuff not worn.

sparklingsilver28 - your wardrobe sounds just wonderful. I love colour so no black, brown or fawn for me either!!

Bluedaisy Mon 07-Sept-20 11:51:46

It seems aubergine, ochre and bottle green are ‘in fashion’. I’ve put on lockdown weight too so just ordered a nice pair of Ochre trousers to wear with a long black shirt and Ochre scarf. Hopefully that will make me feel a bit better about myself whilst I tackle my weight this winter as it should go with a charcoal jacket I bought at the end of last winter.

I don't follow trends at all, I know what does and doesn't suit me. Mainly jeans with t shirt, in Autumn add a cardigan. Spring summer crop trousers and again t shirt. Got to be super hot for me to wear a dress or skirt. If I am not leaving the house my super comfy Next leggings with a baggy top. I prefer comfort over style these days.

I get fed up with the lack of colourful winter clothes. It all seems to be black, blue and grey. I want purples, reds, greens and other warm colours.

Inwear what suits me which is all greens and dark orange/rust. With accents of other colours - eg a black cardi or trousers with something more colourful. But I'm a big girl and it seems from what I find that I am only supposed to wear navy (yuk), grey (love it but it does nothing for me) or black (which is OK but often looks cheap). Also as a larger person I am not supposed to want skirts...

Aepgirl Mon 07-Sept-20 11:10:45

I certainly won’t be buying new clothes for the Autumn. What’ve got that hasn’t been worn over the summer will be jollier up with colourful scarves, and nice jackets, etc.

Gwenisgreat1 Mon 07-Sept-20 11:07:35

As far as I'm concerned it's what fits

leeds22 Mon 07-Sept-20 11:01:38

As I’m probably going to be in semi lockdown this winter, the only fashion statement I will be making is through my bright (Boden) face-masks.

I love colour and had my colours 'done' when it was fashionable a few years ago, I love all the berry colours plus Blues! I read an interesting article that helps point you in the right direction, If you look at your wrist skin/veins they should be either blueish or yellowish indicating that you have a cool or warm complexion. If you are cool like me you should look for colours that have a greyish undertone as opposed to a yellowish/warm feel too them if that makes sense. The websites below are good for sorting colours - Cool = Winter & Summer; Warm = Spring & Autumn. I am summer as although cool colours, the very bright jewel colours and black etc of the Winter palette are too harsh for me, but the softer charcoal grey and raspberry etc of the summer palette look good. I never follow fashion but I always buy colours I love hope this helps smile www.houseofcolour.co.uk www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk

Sparkling Silver you sound like me as I love bright colourful clothes, never wear black, brown or any dingy colours. It makes me feel better to wear bright colours and other people like it too

merlotgran Mon 07-Sept-20 10:32:19

I look anaemic in pastel colours. Autumn colours suit me and I love colours often referred to as 'sludge.' grin

Mollygo Mon 07-Sept-20 10:29:14

I always chose navy blue until one year I tried a rust coat. Now I’m more adventurous so I’ll try anything, and if it suits me, I’ll wear it. Had my colours done once and was given grey and bottle green, neither of which I feel good in so I don’t bother.

Chris5640 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:29:05

I have always wanted a camel coat and try one on every year. Colour drains me and I look awful. Have just bought a lovely maroon biker jacket for the autumn which I will dress up with scarves and wear with jeans. Stick with fashions and colours which suit you.

netflixfan Mon 07-Sept-20 10:14:50

Just wear what suits you. I've never understood why we all supposed to wear 'autumn shades' like we want to camouflage in the fallen leaves.

Philippa111 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:13:10

Thanks NotSpaghetti.. really enjoyed your link to London Fashion Week...some lovely colours there.

jaylucy Mon 07-Sept-20 10:05:26

Considering that this spring and summer was supposed to be pastels and the "pantone" ( yes I thought that was some kind of Italian cake or a brand of shampoo!) was supposed to be pale blue - did anyone actually spot any pastel colour clothing Covid or not? Nope , me neither!
Autumn/ Winter I would always go for berry shades, purple, bottle or khaki green, chocolate brown . In fact just about any colour that makes you feel warm just by looking at it!!
But seeing as I'm sitting here , dressed head to toe in different shades of grey (not as many as 50) , who am I to say what is fashionable?
Can anyone else remember a time when a certain style of clothing - be it mini skirts, maxi skirts, polo necks, large sleeves, slim fitting sleeves etc and that was all you could find in the shops? Now each shop seems to have their own fashion but what really bugs me is when the buyers look as if they have gone into a stock warehouse and said "I'll have that one, that one, some of those and a couple like that" and absolutely nothing goes with each other apart from black ??

Mokell50 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:03:15

I love lime green on other people but not me. I had my colours done years ago, ( I’m a sweet pea summer?) so always keep to those colours rather than following fashion.

annodomini Mon 07-Sept-20 09:54:21

Chewbacca. 'Smart and stylish'? Are you sure it was me? grin

Craftycat Mon 07-Sept-20 09:49:56

Thank you NotSpaghetti

Lovely bright lively colours which are what suit me so I will be fine this winter!! I had my colours done yonks ago but still stick to them- makes shopping so much easier.

LadyBella Mon 07-Sept-20 09:44:16

I must be one of the few people that suit lime green. Every time I wear it I am complimented. But if I wear beige people think I'm ill. sparklingsilver you sound as if you do take a lot of trouble over your appearance and your outfits sound lovely.
