Hi it is my son partner birthday in August she is pregnant with my first grandchild 5 months. I am wanting to give her a special present any ideas

Depends on your budget but clarins do lovely massages for pregnant ladies apparently!

Hithere Mon 26-Jul-21 16:35:22

Another one who pampering doesnt equal spa and massages

NotSpaghetti Mon 26-Jul-21 16:19:37

I too would hate to be pampered - especially when pregnant!!

I'm with Bibbity and would absolutely hate a pamper day. Most people love them but might be a good idea to do a little digging about what makes her happy.

I know it’s thoroughly boring, OP, but unless you know someone’s tastes/preferences extremely well I think I’d go for something like John Lewis vouchers, where they can choose from so many nice things, inc. baby things, if she wants.

You’re not the only one, Bibbity - I’ve had to make it very clear to dds never to give me any such thing!

As for ‘experiences’ such as ballon rides, IMO you need to know the person’s likes very well. Dh was once given a glider flight, which he thoroughly enjoyed, but before they went up, the pilot said, ‘Do you actually want to do this, or do you just feel you have to, because it was a present?’

So presumably that happens quite a lot!

Nice necklace to keep? Tru diamonds have a summer sale on. Many pieces at brilliant reductions. Quality is excellent

I am avoiding buying new silver/gold jewellery as gifts and wouldn't recommend it as we have generally no idea where the precious metal/stones have come from if we buy from a jeweller who doesn't have a very strong ethical stance.

I know the jeweller in the link provided, janeainsworth has an ethical stance but I believe only Canadian diamonds are truly abuse free and she does use diamonds from London and Botswana.

This jewellery business is based entirely on harm-free jewellery.

There will be plenty of others these days.

And wow what gorgeous jewellery, thanks. I’m looking for something for a special friend’s 60th birthday.

wallsendgran I’m assuming from your username you’re based in the north-east wink
Have a look at www.sarahhickey.co.uk
Sarah makes lovely things and you can visit her shop in Hexham or order online.
I gave DD and DiL silver bracelets at Christmas & they were both thrilled.

Congratulations on expecting your first grandchildsmile

Irrelevant I know but… I went to school in Hexham !

With Spa days you need to check it’s a pregnancy specific one as there will be lots she can’t do, no hot tubs/sauna and some massages and facials aren’t allowed. Some places do specific ones for expecting mothers though.

You can get some good book subscriptions for 3/6/12 months if she likes to read.

Bibbity Mon 26-Jul-21 00:38:31

Some massages can not be had when pregnant. And also I would focus on her likes. Could you ask your son?

I may be in a minority but I hate pamper days. I have let a few expire..

CafeAuLait - here’s some flowers to make up for that ultra crappy present all those years ago - good to hear you binned her off - she deserves it
???

Thank you. :-)

Or in the basket even. grin

I love the way the FAQs say confidently that during landing you will be in the safe, seated landing position within the basket as instructed by your pilot. DD1 and I were in a compartmentalised basket, which landed on its side and bumped along at speed while we clung on desperately, while lying on our backs about 6 foot above the ground.

It was great. smile I’m glad I did it then because I now have a medical condition that would rule it out.

We had the last balloon flight in Luxor before covid grounded them and the operator hovered 6 inches above the ground before helpers on land moved in to allow us to alight. Not the slightest bump occurred.

What's wrong with a hot air balloon ride when pregnant?

Apart from the fact that you’re not allowed in the balloon? confused

A spa day is a good idea, but give her a double voucher so that she can take a friend. If that is too expensive, how about a gift voucher for a nail bar or a pedicure? Some nice smelling body lotion for preventing stretch marks is another idea.

I second (third?) something uniquely for her
What does she normally like?

Hithere Sun 25-Jul-21 13:09:17

I agree with cafeaulait

Give her something she likes

Have you acknowledge past birthdays ?
If not, giving her a present now may be weird

Newatthis Sun 25-Jul-21 13:04:09

What a nice MiL. A pamper day would be perfect or some nice cosmetics (organic?).

Callistemon Sun 25-Jul-21 12:49:17

mumofmadboys

Have you been on a hot air balloon ride Cafeaulait? I have. It is a fantastic experience but you bump down, the basket falls over and you end up lying on top of each other! Not ideal if pregnant!!

Yes, that happened when DH was treated to one - not ideal for a pregnant woman, I would have thought.

Something lovely for her, not anything to do with babies.

eazybee Sun 25-Jul-21 12:38:13

Something luxurious so she can indulge herself, also washable, if for long term use!
