Elderly aunt who has got everything she needs will be 90 this month. Haven’t a clue what to buy. Any ideas welcome please!

Are you able to take her to a nice cafe for high tea or a more modest lunch or morning tea?

If you have access to photographs of her over the years you could make up a Photobox style book for her. Our daughter did one for my 60th - pictures from my birth right through to 60 - and 4 years on I still love looking at it.

My DM is older than your aunt and we take her out for afternoon tea on her birthday. I’ve bought her a cardigan and the new John le Carre for her next birthday. She likes box sets which she can re-watch, chocolates and martini.

If you want a gift for your aunt to unwrap (as opposed to a tea, or another "treat out"), then does she ever send cards or letters? If so, then perhaps a nice stationery set (and/or some attractive blank cards) with a couple of pens and some books of stamps? (The latter are quite pricey, so they might be welcomed? Especially if your aunt will be sending out "thank-you" letters!)

I imagine the only thing she would value is nothing... but a bit of time. Take her out for tea or lunch, as said above. I am only 70 and the last thing I want is more 'things/stuff'.

Many thanks. She is not a reader or writer or has ever been a deep thinker so I think the afternoon tea option plus a couple of boxed sets might be the way to go. It is difficult to know what to do. She’s having a small tea party to make a day of it so that’s something.

Flowers and nice chocs are always welcome and what about a pretty brooch. Ladies of that era always use to wear them on coats and jackets. That would ensure she has something nice to keep.

You can sometimes pick up lovely costume jewellery brooches in charity shops then you could buy a small box to put it in. smile

We bought my Aunt a rather nice wrought iron garden bench for her 90th birthday. She spent many a sunny hour upon it until she was 103! I now have it just outside my front door in a sunny spot. Happy memories of a well loved Aunt
