Do you have asbestos roof insulation?

Gosh asbestos can be an issue. My daughter wanted to take down a garage and the quotes were silly money. She has a council property but the garage was put uo by past tentants so the council wouldn't touch is and were more expensive than the man they found in the end.
You must see his license so it isn't just dumped .
So if it is asbestos, please ring around as quotes can vary a lot.
My late dad has asbestosis from Chatham dockyards work in the 60s , not pretty so please don't handle it yourselves .

Thank you. We’ve talked to a council surveyor, who has advised us to get a testing kit, although he’s fairly convinced it won’t be asbestos.

Just so surprised at how much it was used up until 1999, and in so many things you just wouldn’t think of.

Our internal garage has a ceiling made of sheet asbestos. We just put two coats of thick ceiling paint on top of it and have since then left it strictly alone.

Please get it checked out, you can’t send anyone up into the loft if there is any suspicion that it’s asbestos.
As katie says it’s unlikely, more likely to be asbestos in the cheap floor tiling that was used at the time, no one seems to check these before pulling them up and throwing them away.

It’s highly unlikely to be asbestos, most likely loose fill fiberglass or Mica, best plan it to leave it alone and add another layer on top. If it has to be removed an industrial vacuum cleaner is the best bet

Yes, my husband has contacted the council, and looked at the builder on line. Still building it seems. We understood from previous conversations, that it had been banned in the seventies.

Not going up there again until we know for sure.

An expert will inform you, and to be honest you need to be absolutely sure what you are dealing with before you do anything.

What? Do you mean the stuff between the joists coukd be asbestos! Thought this was glass fibre based or wool. We have loose fill insulation and our house is of a similar age so interested to hear more...
