washing machine advice please

Our washer is around the same age and is beginning to misbehave. Pre-Christmas we were looking at replacements and want very much the same as you Liz46.
We were particularly impressed with Grundig and LG, both offered fast spin speeds and an excellent range of programmes and the Grundigs have a particle filter to help eliminate plastic particles from synthetic fabrics getting into the water system.

If you really prefer to replace your machine, rather than get it repaired, I can recommend Beko machines.
Ours is about 5 years old, but I have been pleased with it - has a Daily wash that takes 30 minutes that is usually 30 degrees with an 800 spin, but you can adjust it to 1200 spin.
Also has a 1600 spin for some programmes.
You change the temp and the spin speed just by pressing buttons and it's easy to use. I think it's A energy rated.

Just browsing washing machines in Currys the other day I was amazed to see how many had 3 hour cycles for a basic cotton wash. No way would I get all my washing completed in a day if this was all my machine would offer. Our clothes these days are never really dirty and just need freshening up. Essential to buy a machine with a short cycle that still offers a good speed cycle too. Nice to see someone above has recommended one.

And one where you can vary the temperature too.

Have you looked at EBAC made in Durham with very good reviews.

My head is spinning at 1600 after doing my research! Off to look at EBAC now.

I can recommend the hotpoint I have but it's not longer available but it's very similar to this here it has a fastwash with a full spin and also an ant stain quickwash which is a lower temp. Both cycles wash really well and it is a good quality machine

I know Siemens have a 10 year parts guarantee. But I am buying Bosch 7kg which is smaller 1400 spin as I like the short cycle for washing clothes

The Hotpoint I have has a 10 year parts guarantee but you have to use their engineers and I made the decision to not bother with that.

My Miele is great.

My local Euronics shop is wonderful, excellent advice and service.

I have the hotpoint WMAOD 844 whigh is 8kg but think it is discontinued everywhere now, which is a shame as it is a lovely machine

I have a Bosch classixx which has a 1 hr 23 min cycle with different spin speeds & the most handy of all is a 15 minute wash for when you just need to freshen something up, but spin speed is only 800, but so worth it if you are able to clothes horse/line dry. Good luck with your final choice.

I completely agree. My Hotpoint is 13 years old and and still going strong. It has about 8 programmes and I only use one and occasionally a second. My friend was tearing her hair out this morning when I phoned her. She has a 6 month old very expensive Siemens with a multitude of programmes on a touch screen. It’s repeatedly stopping mid cycle and she has to pull the plug and reboot it to get the washing done. She’s been passed around on the phone trying to get someone to take responsibility and sort it out.

I have this Hotpoint 10kg so I can get padded bedspreads into it, it has a fast cycle on half the washes doing them in an hour, and you can very the temperatures too.

My hotpoint was good, but it was replaced by the newer model in a safety recall two years ago, and the newer one isn't as good. There isn't as much temperature control as there was on the other. It's not as well balanced, either, but then nor am I now

I have a hoover 8kg (can get bigger or smaller drums). It has a 1600 rpm and the shortest cycle is 15 minutes.
Have had it now for over a couple of years, and have no problem with it. I never use any of its pre-programmed progammes, but usually just the weekly wash which lasts for 59 minutes. I can change the temperature of rhe wash and the rpt
