Joules cotton sweat tops

Has anyone else found that these go hard. I have even bought (and used!) conditioner, which I don't normally have but that has made no difference.

Or, does anyone have a solution?

Scribbles Sat 05-Feb-22 19:50:04

I have had this problem with not just Joules but other cotton products from, eg: Lands End, Cotton Traders etc.

I don't use fabric softener - clogs up the washing machine - but tumble dry with the addition of a tumble dryer sheet to every load. I buy the Waitrose own brand ones because they aren't too strongly scented but other brands are available.

Yes, and I haven’t found a solution

Yes, I have also found that Joules cotton. striped tops go hard, so will not be buying them again.

That's why I don't use it, scribbles but i'd also also like to wear the tops. Do the sheets work?

I would be tempted to get in touch with them to discuss.

I've found Joules, Land's End, Woolovers are all poor quality now since production moved to China.

Woolovers sweaters in particular are dreadful and the firm is unhelpful, Land's End knitted cotton jumpers are ok but some are so heavy they're unwearable.
The poor quality is not reflected in the price either.

It's all very disappointing.

I don't know where to buy sweaters any more.

Callistemon21 have a look at Boden or The White Company.

Thanks, GrannyGravy

Have to agree with the deterioration of quality and sizing with Land's End. Have returned last two orders. Never done so before. Sadly, won''t be using them again.

They've worked for me in about 90% of cases, Kitty. The 10% failures are all garments I've had for several years (I get fond of my clothes) and which had already become seriously hard before I tried the dryer sheets. Several washes later, they have softened up a little but nothing like the friendly, snuggly things they once were.

I have not had this problem with Cotton Traders sweatshirts but I don’t tumble dry them until they are old and relegated to gardening clothes! I always worry about them shrinking in the dryer.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 04:17:48

I’ve found that their T-shirt dresses shrink terribly, which along with my colossal weight gain, is something that I really don’t need

shysal Sun 06-Feb-22 07:36:16

I have several Joules and Boden tops. They do feel a bit stiff after drying naturally, but I find once I am wearing them they soften.

kittylester Sun 06-Feb-22 07:36:49

I rarely tumble dry anything but will try dryer sheets on my tops.

I like the White company too and, of course, Seasalt.

kittylester Sun 06-Feb-22 08:07:14

I do wish Seasalt had more variety of colours though.

Casdon Sun 06-Feb-22 08:09:30

This sounds weird, but if you put 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in the fabric softener drawer before you wash, it takes the stiffness out of cotton fabrics when you do the wash - and it doesn’t make the clothes smell of vinegar. I don’t know why it works, but I read it somewhere and tried it, and it definitely does work - I use it on towels too.

Where can you get a white t shirt, that doesn’t bobble and keeps it shape. I have to replace my M and S ones regularly.

J52 Sun 06-Feb-22 08:17:52

I’ve bought 100% cotton clothing from Weird Fish, it does keep its shape, is good quality and washes beautifully.

nanna8 Sun 06-Feb-22 08:21:08

I buy joules online but find the cotton products are too heavy duty, not soft. I would rather have thinner cotton which would probably be cheaper to manufacture as well.

Me too, Fanny! I have stopped buying them.

Uniqlo knitwear is outstanding.

kittylester Sun 06-Feb-22 09:20:48

Thanks, casdon.

Off to look at Weird Fish, j52.
