When DD1 married first time, I lashed out on a fancy outfit. I then wore it for Ladies Day at the races the following year. After that, I wore it to 2 other weddings and for DD2’s graduation, minus the hat. That, the jacket and matching bag have been borrowed by friends several times, so I feel I’ve had my money’s worth from the outlay.

Both my grandmothers had fur coats that came out for every special occasion, nothing expensive; rabbit or fox, but if it was a wedding (or funeral) or anything else. They put the coat on, kept it on and what they were wearing underneath didn't matter.

This has brought back memories of my dear Grandma. She had a “best suit” (Dress with matching jacket in the same material). It came out on many special occasions, including family weddings. ?

Couldn't agree more Monica. My son encouraged me to wear it again "Mum you looked amazing , wear it"

The outfit I wore at DS's wedding was bought originally for my university graduation 6 years before. I didn't wear a hat either. When I married my going away outfit was one I already had.

I have always thought his notion of it being a sign of disregard and disrespect to other people if you do not have a new set of clothes for every special occasion, quite ridiculous.

So lovely to have feedback. Thank you. I often wonder the outcomes to dilemmas discussed on here. Nice one!

Thanks for your update, glad it all went well.

I responded to your original post, I too wore same outfits for son and daughter’s weddings.

How sensible and practical to wear the same, we all need to get out of this thinking that new stuff is always needed.

Some time ago I asked you lovely people your thoughts on the wedding outfit for my son's marriage.I discussed whether it was appropriate to wear the same outfit I wore for my daughter's wedding 8 years ago. The response was positive,my son married yesterday- we are still at the wedding venue . I did wear the complete outfit again and felt amazing!! No regrets at all ,so a big thankyou GN s. We had a wonderful day!
