Does anyone remember The City Bakeries in Glasgow? They sold lovely cream horns and snowballs.

How have you managed to keep them stashed? They wouldn’t have stood a chance here! ?

I moved through to East Lothian 30 years ago from Blantyre and often drove back to Burnbank to get a full sliced lorne to freeze. However the last couple of times I felt it had changed. I have spent 30 years buying lorne from various butchers near me now and can’t find a decent one through here. Now that I don’t buy from Burnbank, the search is still on. I’ve got my eye on a butcher in Edinburgh that I haven’t tried yet and will go there to try theirs. Many, if not all, butchers will make lorne but it isn’t always good lorne! I actually found a butcher through here who makes pork lorne which is quite nice. Some day I’ll find THE one. ? Hope you find/found a decent one to take.

Did you know that caramel logs now come in dark chocolate too and are even better than the original!

Is it a Scottish thing to sandwich rich tea biscuits with butter? When I first started work there was a chap with a soft Dumfries accent who used to have them for his elevenses, but sometimes gave them to me. It took me 6 months to understand his accent and then I became his interpreter as no way was he changing it although he’d lived down South for 30 years. I digress but There is becoming a lovely thread for Scottish food. Let’s not start on malt whiskey DJ’s favourite.

They are hidden with my nuclear bunker stash, no-one knows they are there. I would have to eliminate them if they ate them!

When I hide things in a safe place they are gone forever as my memory isn’t up to the task.

Aaaaarrrgh! That’s my honorary Scots status in jeopardy. And dh won’t be happy - has to be finest malt whisky. Although dd bought him a Welsh one that he quite liked. Can’t be as good without the lovely soft peaty water? Bet a larne sandwich would go well with The Balvenie.

25Avalon, in my case, my 'play-piece in primary school was two digestive biscuits sandwiched with butter. On picnics we would have rich tea biscuits with Cadbury's Bournville dark chocolate, but I think that might have been a speciality of our family.

I either had a very small school bag or Wagon Wheels were much bigger, as one filled the front pocket when I was lucky enough to have one for my play piece!
Who also remembers the tooth breaking Penny Dainty? So big you couldn’t chew them. It’s a wonder we didn’t all choke to death.

I am not a chocolate lover but DH makes up for it with his stash! Wagon Wheels which he bemoans are half the size along with Tunnocks caramel wafer and tea cakes. Highland toffee and penny dainties we more to my taste. I miss not being able to find Scots Royal biscuits, sandwiched with raspberry jam, icing on the top with a sugared jelly sweetie to make empire biscuits.
