I have a huge bunion on my left foot. Has anyone brought Calla shoes and do they help.help? Unfortunately will have to buy online so can't try them on. 8m sick of wearing trainers which DH has slit to relieve pressure. Any advice would be appreciated

I haven’t tried Calla, but I also have a bunion on my left foot (only). The shoes that suit my feet best are VanDal, you can get them in different width fittings to accommodate most foot problems, they are good quality, and they have a good choice.

I had never heard of them, but I am now very interested!
I hope you find something to suit.

Charleygirl5 Mon 18-Apr-22 13:50:22

Me neither Marydoll. I also will investigate.

I wear Hotter because of my very swollen feet.

Parky, has your GP referred you to a podiatrist?

They are expensive, but sometimes nothing else is comfortable. If I was going to a wedding or somewhere a heel would look smarter I would give some a try.

I am another with a bunion on the left, with just the beginnings of one on the right. I only wore sensible shoes when young because I didn't want feet like my mother's, but I still ended up with them!

I have just seen a pair of trainers I love. However, I could not justify the cost, as I could give Imelda Marcos a run for her money. I do not need any more trainers! blush
It was the colours, which grabbed my attention! In fact I like All of them. grin

Bunions are not necessarily caused by badly fitting shoes. We are encouraged to believe this, but many people inherit them(my gran didn't have bunions and my grandad DID)
I asked the doc about surgery on mine- but she said they often grow back!!!
Hotter boots are great, so are Birkenstock sandals...and good luck!!

MavisCabbage "Bunions are not necessarily caused by badly fitting shoes. We are encouraged to believe this, but many people inherit them"

Absolutely agree with this, another old wives tale to make mothers feel guilty.

Musicgirl Mon 18-Apr-22 16:57:15

They are definitely hereditary. My mum and sister have them but I have the same shaped feet as my dad had. They wear Hotter shoes, which l also find comfortable. I hope you can find a comfortable pair of shoes.

Can I suggest trying Compeed bunion covering from Boots. They stop the rubbing and I also have Compeed toe covers for my 2 bent toes. The coverings last a couple of weeks at a time. You can shower in them and they stay put. ?

I've had both my bunions done, some years ago. No sign of them returning, an inheritance from my mother which I didn't want!

KnittyNannie Tue 19-Apr-22 13:30:49

I had my bunions removed eight or nine years ago. I’ve never regretted it. There is no sign of them returning. AND I can wear any shoes Infancy!

… I fancy. How I hate predictive text!!

I have not tried Calla shoes, but I can highly recommend solebliss.com/ smile as they are really comfortable. They have flats, heels and trainers. I think bunions must be inherent, as I have exactly the same feet as my mother. Good Luck with your shoe shopping.

sandwichgeneration Tue 19-Apr-22 14:04:15

I bought one pair but had to send them back as they were too wide. Apart from my bunions, my feet are narrow. I recommend you contact them about width fittings so that you get the best fitting pair for your feet.

Jane43 Tue 19-Apr-22 14:13:42

Pavers do a range of shoes with wide and extra wide options.

DianaLouise Tue 19-Apr-22 14:13:56

i have also inherited them. I find Gabor are very good but have read duchess of Cornwell wears Sole bliss. Also Hotter do a few heels that look smart and M&S wide fitting. I do get fed up buying shoes and then not wearing them wish van Dall were available in the shops again. its expensive to have to send them back. If I could get a couple of good fit shoes would not mind paying over the odds if they were pain free.

Yes. bunions are definitely hereditary according to the podriatist I saw recently. I can't really remember all his explanation but basically ,you inherit bones which are a bit more bendable than most, so they get pushed out of position and bunions develop. I have large ones, plus plantar fascitis and very wide feet, and am rarely without pain. Oh and I have attacks of gout as well.
I used to look forward to Spring / summer when I could get into Dr Scholls or Birkenstocks or similar, but even they are no longer comfortable. I have one pair of shoes now that are as comfortable as they can be, from FitFlop, which are clog style and called Shuv. Even though they look rather wintry I wore them the whole of last year, even in the house when baking or doing anything which entailed standing for a lenteh of time. . Very recently Fitflop have come up with another Shuv clog but with open toes, so I was delighted and bought a pair - at great expense. Sadly they were not wide enough and I've just sent them back. Am wondering whether to try a half size larger.

Meanwhile I shall investigate Calla and Van Dal!

DianaLouise Tue 19-Apr-22 14:38:11

would also investigate a pair of white converse they look great with trainers but also can be worn with summer dresses and look trendy with a pair of trainer socks

giulia Tue 19-Apr-22 15:01:32

Helen Mirren also wears SoleBliss! I have some. They are loely and so smart.

nipsmum Tue 19-Apr-22 15:03:13

I have bunion on my right foot. I saw a consultant podiatrist. She told me my bunion was caused by me having flat feet. I've had them since I was about 15 when my GP diagnosed fallen arches.... An operation would not be possible now.

Aldom Tue 19-Apr-22 15:09:23

NanKate I second Compeed plasters. I discovered them this year and they have truly transformed my life. I have a bunion and a calcification on the left foot. It was difficult to find shoes which are comfortable. Since using Compeed plasters (there's a whole range of different uses) I am pain free and my shoes are no longer a problem. Also, the plasters tone with skin, so no unsightly plaster showing when wearing sandals or pretty shoes.

esgt1967 Tue 19-Apr-22 15:17:29

I never had bunions until a few years ago (I'm nearly 55) and read that it could be to do with my psoriasis. My toes have always been horribly bent (inherited from my father!) but, as I say, no other problems until around 5 years ago.

They're not too painful but my big toes press against my 2nd toe and makes it numb most of the time.

When I had an ingrown toenail removed several years ago (unrelated to other foot problems!), the surgeon almost had an orgasm looking at my bent toes - OMG, what I could do with those toes (he said)! Ha ha.

DianaLouise Tue 19-Apr-22 15:44:03

another tip is to buy some leather pumps (hotter do a very comfortable one) and carry in your handbag especially when you have heels on and change when the going gets tough such relief!
