According to Michael Mosley it's the latest superfood - good for our brain and can make us run faster!

And relatively cheap compared to blueberries and avocados.

I really like it but have to admit have never cooked it from raw - I buy it the vacuum packs.

Beetroot

surely we didn't need Michael to tell us confused it has always been known to be good for your liver but makes you have frighteningly coloured poo

I love it! A goats cheese and beetroot salad is a wonderful thing. I roast it in foil and it's so tasty

It’s a beautiful colour but I don’t like the taste so don’t eat it.

Only pickled. Love pickled baby beetroot.

I like it and also the leaves, which make a good veg or soup. I decided to sow many more seeds than normal this year. It is an easy veg to grow for leaf pickings before the root is ready

I love it. I buy the juice sometimes as well.

He's always advising us about some fad or other.

I love it - I use it in a salad ….makes everything pink !

I love beetroot but don't eat it that often. Must add it to my shopping list.

activerelaxer Fri 29-Apr-22 09:39:08

I love it but it stains so much I never eat it at home. Beetroot, walnut and goats cheese salad was all the in thing in restaurants a few years ago but sadly seems to have fallen from favour.

No I find it revolting. Tried it raw once when juicing and tbh it tasted like dirt.

I don’t dislike beetroot, but it’s not something I eat very often, although if I’m ever served it with a meal I always enjoy it more than I expect to. However, The Wonderful Man loves it and we grow tons of the stuff; it gets boiled and is pickled in huge kilner jars (his job, not mine), he especially likes it roasted fresh with a cheese sauce.

Serendipity22 Fri 29-Apr-22 09:44:19

I can take it or leave it. I can't say if i see beetroot out on view I HAVE to have some, but if it is on my plate in a cafe etc then I will eat it, its ok.... smile

I do! in fact I love it, I can just eat it on its own, it does discolour other ingredients in salads. It's one of the only foodstuffs one of my sons hates, he'll hoover up practically anything except that! I'm going to give him one those vacuum packets of it for an up and coming birthday, suitably wrapped, before I present him with his actual present grin

Before Michael Mosley made his proclamation, I read somewhere that any really vivid coloured vegetable, possibly fruit as well is very good for us.

glammanana Fri 29-Apr-22 09:48:48

I love it I use it weekly in my diet, scouse just wouldn't be the same without a bowl of sliced beetroot.

Gongoozler Fri 29-Apr-22 09:50:42

I love it. One of my favourite things is beetroot risotto. The rice turns a wonderful deep pink!

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Apr-22 09:52:46

I grow it and love eating it, roasted is a favourite.

I absolutely hate beetroot but dh loves it. I find it nest to cook my own. Small ones boil for about 3/4 hour. Then I either peel slice and put in vinegar in a bowl in the fridge or in sterilised jars and have with salad or in sandwiches (shudder!). Or I bake them in the oven and serve as a vegetable that way. Beetroot juice is said to be very good especially if you are prone to kidney stones.

Why do I hate beetroot? When I was about 7 the school cook was manic and I was terrified of her. You didn’t dare leave anything on the plate so I ate all my beetroot up, until one day she gave me a very large portion. I plodded then half way through in desperation I put the rest in my pocket. I remember a pretty green dress with white bows and a red stain which the teacher couldn’t help but see! I have never liked beetroot since.

Yes, we do.

Roasted with red onions, garlic and thyme then glazed with a little stock and balsamic vinegar.
Lovely with sausage and mash.

According to Michael Mosley it's the latest superfood
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose ?

I can tolerate beetroot if it's in a goat's cheese salad and as long as it isn't pickled.

henetha Fri 29-Apr-22 10:02:04

Yes, I bit. Couldn't eat a whole one though.

Rosie51 Fri 29-Apr-22 10:03:24

I love beetroot in any form as long as it hasn't been touched by vinegar, can't stand pickled beetroot. My Saturday job as a teenager included boiling up the beetroot ready for sale as a salad ingredient. My treat for doing it was one to eat while still hot, yummy.

shysal Fri 29-Apr-22 10:05:11

Too earthy for me so I never eat it.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Apr-22 10:07:31

I love it still warm from being boiled, and with lots of salt on.
In a lovely cheese sarnie.
