What do you think to Helen Mirren’s hair and make-up sported this week at the Cannes Film Festival? I normally think that HM is beautifully groomed and doesn’t look her age, yet has that edgy styling which helps her look younger and sassier. I think she went overboard at the recent film festival though. It makes her look older and rather - dare I say it - witchy. Nil points from me!

It’s most likely to be a clip on pony tail I should imagine.
Hair extensions would be far too damaging on her fine hair

DanniRae Sat 28-May-22 12:53:52

I am not a fan of her whatever she wears but have to say she usually looks better than this shock

Sparklefizz Sat 28-May-22 12:55:28

That hairstyle of being tightly pulled back (Croydon facelift, as you say Fanny) only suits young faces with good bone structure. It doesn't flatter HM and the eye makeup is much too heavy.

She looks gorgeous with the pink pixie cut layers in the other photo.

I think her dress is lovely, but with black shoes??? shock

Apparently I'm a bit of a Helen Mirren lookalike. Although I've got better legs. ??. So I always take an interest in what my Alter Ego is wearing.

Normally she is gorgeous, immaculately groomed and Styled. She can do both full on glamour and edgy really well.

But not this time. Not one of her best looks.

Calendargirl Sat 28-May-22 13:11:14

Hair far too severe, awful eye make up, too much emphasis on her ears.

nanna8 Sat 28-May-22 13:13:54

She usually looks so elegant and attractive . I can’t even recognise her in this picture, perhaps she is preparing for a role in SciFi ?

I think she normally looks fabulous but not in that picture. When I first saw it it made me think of Galadriel from Lord of the Rings (elf queen, for those not familiar with Lord of the Rings)

FannyCornforth

She looks amazing here.
I’m so looking forward to having white hair so that I can dye it pink

Croydon Facelift
Is that what it is.
All I can say is - she just doesn't look like herself!!

She looks lovely in that picture in your post FannyC
I want mine to go grey so I can dye it purple.

Callistemon21 Sat 28-May-22 14:40:45

Is it to do with a film part?

TerriBull Sat 28-May-22 14:55:18

That prima ballerina, hair pulled back off the face, or as it is more commonly known "The Croydon Facelift" can be very unforgiving, HM looks good most of the time, especially with that fringe. Actors often have to briefly adopt a certain look with hair etc. for whatever part they're playing.

I think she looked fabulous at the l’Oreal show.

Has anyone read the article about her in People? Really interesting, talking about her style.

I can't decide if she has morphed into a witch, an alien, or Kim Woodburn!

AussieNanna Sat 28-May-22 15:07:11

I think the short pink hairstyle looks much better than the photo in OP and I don't like the OTT eye make up

But of course she can wear what she wants and it doesn't matter what I think.

Cherrytree59 Sat 28-May-22 15:21:25

Had she been dressed in blue, then I would have thought Avatar
Or maybe the Elf from Lord of the Rings.

The type of look make the headlines..

I am a fan of Helen Mirran and have admired her different styles.
I do think she is just having a bit fun and why not?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-May-22 15:34:51

We should all dress for ourselves, not for others.

If she felt good, I am happy for her.

Hithere Sat 28-May-22 15:43:17

All it counts is that she was happy with her outfit

Women must not dress for others or looking younger.

Why is getting older a sin?

JackyB Sat 28-May-22 15:49:19

Whether it's suitable for her age or not, it's just not her.

As for getting into sci-fi, wasn't one of her first roles in 2001-A space Odyssey?

Hear hear

FannyCornforth Sat 28-May-22 16:14:00

I can’t imagine that she was happy
Nothing to do with ageing at all
It just looked horrible

I don't think it is about looking younger - I just don't think it looked good. Nothing to do with age.

And of course if she is happy that is what matters - but that doesn't mean we can't say if we liked it or not.

Catterygirl Sat 28-May-22 16:49:29

Horrible dress.

62Granny Sat 28-May-22 17:58:10

Her hair and make in th OP make her look like someone out of a sci-fi movie, not a good look but I am not keen on the one of her in the pink dress either it makes her look matronly . Poor women can't win can she?

Esmay Sat 28-May-22 18:08:51

Talented actress and she can wear what she wants, but this really isn't her best look :
The hair too straight and long ,her
eye make up is too much and her shoes are too dark , but it's a truly gorgeous dress worn on a super slim body .
She looks better I normally do trudging round the shops with my trolley !!!

Casdon Sat 28-May-22 19:54:09

I looked at it and thought she has a good figure for age 76, and still able to carry off a sparkly silver dress which most people wouldn’t. I didn’t like her eye makeup, but there was a lovely picture of her looking au natural the the next morning, so it was just the styling that evening that was off.

Callistemon21 Sat 28-May-22 19:56:38

Why is getting older a sin?

It's not.
She normally looks fab but this is just weird.
