Which radio station should I listen to?

I have loved the music played on Radio 2. A mix of up to date and older stuff. Sadly, Ken Bruce is soon going to be the only person left that I like listening to.

My grandchildren are impressed that I have reasonably up to date musical k owledge and I'd like to keep my street cred ( or whatever it's called nowadays)

Where can I find similar music?

Spotify probably has any music that has ever been recorded. Your grandchildren will be able to set it up for you if you are not familiar with it.

I use Spotify already. But I need to hear the music before I look for it on Spotify.

Absolute has a mix of new stuff and older hits.

We like Boom Radio, also UK/Gold

I didn’t know Ken was leaving ?

kittylester Fri 26-Aug-22 22:03:58

No he isn't! He is going to be the only one left.

I know what you mean. It was Vanessa's last programme today and I will really miss her. I actually prefer her to Jeremy Vine.

For me it's Classic FM, Scala, Smooth, Gold London and Radio 2. I get a bit of everything then according to my mood.

I love smooth radio has quite a choice.

I prefer anyone to Jeremy Vine. I even preferred Amol Rajan (?) And I love Paddy O'Connell.

I sympathize. Our local radio station changed from a mix of pop music to oldies only (and by that I mean 70's and80's music). Although I enjoy the music, I don't get to hear any new stuff, so I'm not familiar with it.

I know you can find radio stations on line, but I wish they would advertise what sort of music they played.

Nick Abbot on LBC. Lifts my spirits after a hard week at work!

In the morning our local radio 3 counties, then change to Boom radio which we’ve just discovered. Love all the music from my youth ?

I still enjoy some of Radio 2, Ken Bruce is king, but I enjoy Tony Blackburn's Sounds of the 60s- I listen later on BBC Sounds cos its too early for me , they changed Bryan Matthews' 8-10 am slot to 6-8am...also TB's Golden Hour, recently moved from Fri eve to Sunday.
I'm afraid BBC is edging older DJs out... Richie - travel guy, Strictly candidate-seems to be getting a lot of exposure, he was hosting the drive time show today. I do hope he's not being ' trained up' to replace Ken, that would ruin Radio 2 for me.

I also listen to Gold Radio and Absolute 70s/ 80s. Or I just ask Alexa to play 60s music or classic albums/ best ofs...Neil Young, Moody Blues, Lovin' Spoonful, Bee Gees, John Denver....

I love all the old stuff but I like it mixed with some more upto date stuff too.

I’m still cross that Radio 2 got rid of Don Black on Sunday evenings. It was my ‘go to sleep’ programme although I very rarely got through the whole thing in one go! Loved listening to the bits I’d missed on ‘catch up’.

They have absolutely ruined Friday nights, putting on Michelle Visage and DJ Spoony (whoever he is) . So I am slowly losing interest in Radio 2. I would be interested in suggestions as a replacement.

We listen to Boom Radio most of the time now and only listen to Radio 2 for Tony Blackburn’s Sounds of the Sixties.

kittylester Sat 27-Aug-22 09:05:25

Does Boom play any up to date stuff?

NorthowramGran Sat 27-Aug-22 17:35:51

Another Boom listener here. Radio 2 no longer cater for us baby boomers. Boom play a lot of music from the 60s and 70s.

Grannmarie Sat 27-Aug-22 17:59:43

I'll give Boom a try, thanks.

Radio 6 is my go to station to find out what’s new in the music world. And Sky Arts have some great music programmes and concerts. PJ Harvey in concert the other night was superb.

Casdon Sat 27-Aug-22 18:44:41

Jamie Callum is definitely still worth listening to on Radio 2, Tuesday at 9pm. I like Gary Davies and Vernon Kay when they cover too - and Lisa Tarbuck on Saturday evening, although she is completely barmy she plays some very interesting music.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 27-Aug-22 18:48:59

I listen to Radio 6 Music. A Pink Floyd track could be followed by Robert Plant and Alison Kraus. Sometimes jazz, other times club music. I love it - except when they play Rap!
