A light fluttering scarf to blow across the gentleman's face would be a nice flirtatious note

I need urgent help with what to wear, please! I've lost my shape & sense of style along with it! Size 16 and very curvy.
DH has a company 'Summer Event'' - a thames cruise and
then lunch at a restaurant.
Trouble is, it's no longer very summery, but not cold yet either. Also, the invitation makes no mention of a dress code.
Any ideas, please?

If you want to go the whole nautical theme I have a Pea Jacket and a Guernsey you could borrow. And of course the deck shoes ?
No way would I wear stilettos, or a brimmed hat! I’ve been on a river cruise , it was all enclosed , when we went most of the ladies were wearing smart trousers and tops a few with shawls,
Yes, Seasalt or Boden. Both make things that have the ability to look elegant enough in that kind of setting and casual enough in a casual setting. I'd go for a dress and M&S Heatgen thermals underneath. They look like fine leggings , so quite refined but cosy. I'd go for a straight cut style y and nothing with a pronounced waist. Something like this? www.seasaltcornwall.com/cresting-waves-sleeveless-linen-dress
And something warm on top and a smart pashmina. No heels.
Have a lovely time... just be yourself!
First, don't think about your size. We come in all sizes, I'm sure you're lovely. Trousers, nice top, jacket or jumper, cute flat shoes - sorted.
I carry a very thin, hooded, black slicker for these occasions. Neatly folded into a small zip bag, inside my handbag.

Caleo was not sending up the OP.
She was merely introducing a note of frivolity to the thread. The picture she engendered was the cover illustration of many a Mills & Boon book or women's magazine story in the 1950s and 60s.
I am sure the OP will enjoy the frivolity of the lovely event she is going on, as for worrying about her size. Has she looked around her at people of all ages in the streets and supermarkets? Size 16 should be defined as slim.

Take Hyacinth Bucket as your model
If that’s not “sending up”, what is?
Oh the wide brimmed hat and stilettos
A genuine question deserves a genuine answer, .
I agree Maw.
I like that dress but at £98 !!!!
No thank you
Layers. By the way 16 is not big!!!
If you like seasalt Louise's Closet. Com have seasalt clothes at great prices, I just bout 3 tops for £51 including postage, very quick delivery etc, not bad when a larisa shirt is £45 now. They wash well and last for years. Seasalt end of sale is on too.
To start with:
phone whoever in your husband's work-place is organising this do and ask if there is a dress code.
If there is and you didn't find out because your DH wasn't listening when it was mentioned, you will feel wrong-footed from the start of the evening.
If there isn't a dress code, are you a woman who habitually wears skirts or dresses, or du you wear jeans or slacks for preference?
Chose your preference, then try on some of your existing clothes and decide what you will feel best in.
Remember if you are to be out on deck, it is always colder on the water than on shore. So dress warmly, and as already said, preferably with a layer you can take off, or put on at need, brought along with you rolled up in a shoulder bag or the like.
A thin rainproof is a MUST.
Flat shoes - you may be able to get around on a passenger boat in heels but it is doubtful, and if the boat is privately owned heels are frowned on as they damage the decks.
Gangplanks and jetties are also a real pain in the neck if you wear heels.
Remember sun-glasses if this do starts in daylight, as the glare of sun on water can be very unpleasant.
Depending on your hair-style, you might also want to take some kirby grips or a head-scarf with you to stop your hair flying around in the wind.
Enjoy yourself!
Firstly .forget ageing shawls/ throws/ wraps and high heels! It's a boat trip not Ascot! I'd go for smart Chino style trousers , cotton shirt and maybe a short jacket/ cardigan with a scarf to help with cold breezes, a silk/ cotton neck scarf not a granny wrap! With stylish, good quality flat loafers or classy comfortable flat shoes to compliment your look. M&S have most of these items , so not bank crashing! Emphasis on understated and classy, don't wan to to o look as if you've never been on a boat before , on other hand , you don't want to to look like Hyacinth on her boat trip either!! Hope yo in have a smashing time ,! Thames trips are so interesting, you'll love it but only if you feel comfortable and yourself.xx
Oh for heavens sake
It’s just a wee giggle
I’m not laughing.
Sorry to be irreverent, but your request reminded me of Mrs Bucket wearing navel apparel in ‘keeping up appearances’ ?

It is nearly always cold on boats (unless you are cruising the Caribbean!) What ever you decide on take a wrap or jacket.
Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing such as shorts, a t-shirt, a sun hat, and sunglasses. Moreover, explore more outfit options like a midi dress, jumpsuit, or maxi dress.
It happened a year ago I think your advice is not needed

why did you pen an old old thread ?
I wonder what the OP wore after all and did she have a great time?
I’d wear some nice linen trousers, a plain tunic top and some on trend smart trainers. Even Camilla, Joanna Lumley and Judi Dench choose them over pumps or flats now. I have some fabulous animal print ones by Vanessa Wu and some shiny black ones with white soles. I would definitely take a waterproof jacket.

The thread was from last year, Primrose!
Definitely flat comfy shoes , definitely trousers loose jumper or tunic top. I imagine it will be casual dress. Have a lovely time - I agree size 16 is not big !!! Have a wonderful time and don't worry about what is appropriate dress - just be comfortable 🙂.
I’d go for smart casual, with a nice warm cover-up and a scarf.
