Bit random - hot chocolate!

We have people staying over the winter, and winter walks will be on the agenda. I have heard you can do hot chocolate in a slow cooker which I thought would be nice on our return to warm up. However, I don’t drink it. I wish I could like it (I LOVE chocolate confused ) but I just don’t.
So, wise people, please tell me if there’s brands that you would recommend or is it all pretty similar. Maybe I could even be converted if there’s a ‘dealbreaker’ brand?!

We make ours in the slow cooker on bonfire night, and sometimes over Christmas when we go out for a walk, so it's ready when we get home. A good whisk up before serving. Almond milk though rather than dairy. Sometimes a little bit of liqueur for the adults. Usually use Montezumas 100% chocolate which is quite bitter, so marshmallows for those who want it sweeter.

Plain cocoa for me, much too much sugar in hot chocolate usually.

Yes me too. Love the plain chocolate taste of pure cocoa in hot milk.

I've just bought a hot chocolate bomb to put into hot milk, I'll report back! Was going to save it for my daughter but she's a strict veggie and it contains marshmallows with beef gelatine.

Never liked Hot Chocolate (except the singer) - I’d rather a nice big bar of Cadburys fruit and Nut

I'm a big hot chocolate fan, - prefer it to coffee. I just add hot water to it in a mug. No sugar. And I will try Lidl's next time I go there.

I was a lifetime Cadbury fan until I decided to 'gamble' 89p on a Lidl equivalent. Bingo! Now only L for me.

I think it’s something you might do for a large number of people Georgesgran. There’s a recipe in BBC Good Food magazine, but like you I’d find it too much faff. Anyway, here’s the recipe.

So glad I'm not the only one! I like chocolate but I can't stand chocolate as a drink. It's just nasty.

Georgesgran Sat 01-Oct-22 21:35:48

Having read the thread - the OP is talking about making chocolate drink in a slow cooker. That seems an awful faff, when milk could be quickly warmed in a pan or microwave, or am I missing something?

Doodledog. It’s a lovely shop, and full of temptation!

Another vote for Lidl instant hot choc here.
DH bought a different brand and it wasn't as nice.

My daughter likes the Options hot chocolate best, I'll give the Lidl one a go.

I've just tried the Fox's hot chocolate, tooth tingingly sweet!

Me too. I find hot chocolate - at least any that I’ve tried - too sickly sweet.

have you tried the choclate from them blossoming? I was just being nosey smile

Oh, Lidl chocolate is lovely, not sure if it's their own make or a German brand.

My ex boss sent me a hamper of Hotel Chocolate products one Christmas Jane. They were good but Kennedy’s are my favourite. I love going to their factory shop near Shap Fell. In fact I must check their Christmas ordering dates for some treats [smile

Ooh, I'll be up that way soon. I'll make a point of looking in - I haven't been before, although I know where it is.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

I think I could be converted with that recipe Sarah74 grin

Riverwalk - you speak my language wink

I like the Lidl Hot Chocolate too. Prefer it to Cadbury and more expensive brands .

I have a velvetiser and I love it. My favourite chocolate for it is Hotel Chocolat ginger (it has a real kick), and I like their Black Forest Gateau too. Otherwise, I buy chocolate from Pendragon, as it is much cheaper than HC and just as nice. I recommend their Dark Spice flavour, and the orange one (can't remember the name, but it's also dark - I'm less keen on the sweet milky ones).

My favourite hot chocolate comes from Lidl.. I’m so common grin

Blossoming Sat 01-Oct-22 18:16:01

I think those velvetisers are dreadfully overpriced!

JaneJudge Sat 01-Oct-22 18:03:36

Has anyone tried these hotel chocolat velvetisers?

I have a tassimo machine that you can buy hot chocolate pods for (cadburys for example)
