This little outfit was my mother's, she used to let me dress up in it as a child. Mum died in 2008 aged 100 and I am in my 80s, so its very old. Now its in the back of my wardrobe and I don't know what to do with it.
It must be well over 100 years old.
My grandchildren weren't interested when they were small.
Can anyone tell me where it came from (I'm thinking Switzerland)?
Should I sell it? Who would want it?
It seems too elaborate just to throw in the bin, the beading on it is very striking and it seems to have been hand made.

Could you get advice from the V&A?

Sell it on ebay?

But don't put it on Ebay until you have found out all you can about it. If you can't describe it accurately, you won't put the key words into the listing that people who would be interested in it are putting into the search engine.

Oh, my! What a lovely thing you have. I wouldn't give it away or sell it without first trying to interest a responsible person in the family who might like to have custody of it. I mean, think about it. We look at ancient costumes now, and take the delight in them. If people did not collect things and keep them and hand them down in their families, how would we know what things were or where they were from? If nothing else, it could be donated to an appropriate museum. However, I might frame it and put it in my home and pass it down to someone in my will. It's so special!

Haven't read any comments yet, but I have a really lovely Dutch outfit, not too unsimilar to yours, that my DD wore when we lived there, have a picture somewhere. It has an apron and a winged bonnet; she wore with Dutch Cloggs. Don't throw it away Exdancer I'm sure one of your AC or GC will love to have it, even if they don't wear it, it's lovely. I'll post and then see if I can find the pic.

I think that little outfit could have originated in any of a number of European countries, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland or a number of others. These little dresses were often worn with a little white blouse, in Switzerland usually embroidered.

My DD found this pic, not the full outfit, but can't find another as quite a long time ago.

Almost certainly Norwegian.

I have a little Dirndl with the white embroidered blouse and apron which my dds wore as children, later also my gd ( but only once or twice). I made sure I took photos and will keep it for my dd to decide what she does with it.

Together with everything else that I have kept ( she won’t be pleased)
