My Shark is now six years old, so is out of guarantee, and playing up, time to replace?
Any recommendations please?
Must be lightweight, easy to carry.

We have a mixture of hard floors and carpet.
If I get another Shark, I am hoping existing my tools will fit.

If you go on Amazon you will see thousands of reviews.

I know! They all claim to be good.

We have the Vax and find it very good.

There was a thread under Chat on cordless vacuum cleaners last month and GTech seemed to be the most popular. You could search to find the comments Cabbie21.

Don’t buy a Dyson!

Cabbie21 Mon 13-Feb-23 14:02:49

Sorry, I hadn’t spotted the earlier thread, thanks Patsy70

I don’t think your existing tools will fit if you get another Shark unfortunately Cabbie21, they didn’t with mine. I upgraded my cordless after about 5 years, but the new one has a click on tool attachment with a button, so the old tools won’t attach. It may vary between models though.

I agree

I was thinking of getting a Shark 🤔

FlexibleFriend Mon 13-Feb-23 15:33:39

Depends on what model of whichever brand you buy. Different models within the same brand can vary enormously.
I have a Dyson, and a shark cordless and think the Dyson is head and shoulders above the newer shark. The best of all is the Dyson kinetic which isn't cordless.

I have an excellent Dyson Ball Animal, not cordless, but it is quite heavy for me to use now.

The cordless is okish but I'd heard good reports of the Shark.

I have to say, I like my Dyson.

karmalady Mon 13-Feb-23 15:42:55

My dyson is fantastic, had it for 4 months now. Really really expensive but is so versatile and has a very good searchlight that enables me to get to dirt I could not see by eye alone. Tbh it makes vacuuming a pleasure and is lightweight. I bought the special freestandingcharging stand to hold it but it does come with a wall charger

I have seen this dyson advertised on tv lately. I used to have a shark, a miele, a sebo upright. The dyson is the best I ever had

I had a great deal ordering online from Vax itself. I received an extra battery and tools for less than the Amazon price. It’s very lightweight, east to clean and does the job.

Which model is it, karmalady?

MawtheMerrier Mon 13-Feb-23 16:33:54

I have a Shark with “headlights” and find it superior to my “little” Dyson. But I loved that little machine when it was in its prime- a quick zoom round with no effort on my part. And as for the charge lasting only 20 minutes- that’s quite long enough to spend hoovering!

karmalady Tue 14-Feb-23 07:56:41

Callistemon it is a dyson detect. The light is not a headlight, which my shark had. It is a special laserlight that makes any dirt stand out like white beacons. It really is expensive however I can justify it as it is fun to use and will soon have paid for itself compared to what my friend pays for her weekly cleaner

We've Dyson V-10, for pets.

We're owners to three Parson Terriers, Dyson V-10 works very well. I use it daily, our frisky dogs shed profusely!

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 14-Feb-23 08:18:15

We have a Dyson too. Like Norah we have dog hair to cope with and the Dyson makes very light work of it - literally. Brilliant suction..

Have you tried getting it repaired? There are repair cafes all over the country now and any faults could well be sorted out. All for free (or the cost of a donation) and you often get tea and biscuits while you pick up a few tips about how to do maintenance and minor repairs.

www.repaircafe.org/en/

Maggiemaybe Tue 14-Feb-23 08:33:09

Strangely, the repair cafe we use isn’t even listed amongst the hundreds on the website, so it’s worth looking in local Facebook groups for one near to you.

Cabbie21 Tue 14-Feb-23 09:12:44

I have never heard of these. Not sure if it is going to be worth repairing actually.

Kalu Tue 14-Feb-23 09:22:22

I have the Shark anti hair wrap model which works very well but I find it heavy going as it swivels about and find it a nuisance that this one doesn’t stand upright alone, has to be propped up to stop it clattering to the floor.

I was looking at a Eufy robo vacuum on offer on Amazon, £159. I don’t know much about them but friends tell me they are wonderful. Maybe £159 is too cheap but I fancy the idea of just switching it on and let it do the work.

Sarah75 Tue 14-Feb-23 09:31:21

I have a GTech Air Ram. It’s very light, and easy to empty. I couldn’t afford the more expensive Dysons, Shark, etc. The GTech was about £200. We don’t have pets anymore, so can’t say how it would cope with pet hair. It does have a light at the front which is useful. Also have a small GTech handheld for the stairs. They currently have 20% off everything with the code LOVE.

I have one of the early models of Dyson stick vacuums. Mine has been great but now it's being silly. It pulses. I've tried taking it all to bits and thoroughly cleaning it, it works properly for a short while and then goes back to pulsing. I'm thinking that it's time to replace it. I'll watch this thread with interest.
