Wonder when you first noticed you were aging quickly

When I was in my late fifties I looked very young for my age and felt great. Over the last two years I seem to have aged dramatically. I am early 60s. I just don't look like I did back then and feel like I have changed such a lot in a short period of time and this has affected my confidence. My husband is very kind and reassuring but it does worry me. I have had more of my fair share of difficulties and bereavements during this time so wonder whether this can accelerate aging. Its mainly looks wise at the moment, my skin and hair are terribly dry and lots of wrinkles appearing. I just wondered if others started to age quicker around this age or if any of you have any useful advice. I am really very cross with myself for being so vain as I do have a lot of other things in life to be grateful for.

I look a good deal younger than my actual age. That's what I'm told anyway. I now reply "my packaging is holding up well but I need some of the contents replacing!" I was really fit and healthy until I hit my 70's but developed a heart problem at 72. I still look young and well, just don't feel it! I think I'm lucky with the bone structure of my face and body type and cannot take any credit except always being careful to stay the same weight which becomes increasingly difficult because of the drugs I have to take.

About 45 - that's when I first noticed the veins on the backs of my hands becoming prominent. Raised blue 'road map' lines and even worse now. As I've also got long and thin fingers both hands look like I've borrowed them from a corpse.
And so many celebs have so much cosmetic surgery in their face, but it's the hands that give them away.

70 seems to have been the turning point for me - I am just turned 80 now. It began with a pain in my back which has got steadily worse and spread from one joint to another. Every few months another ache or pain seems to come along. I really resent it when I see people who appear to be my age (like my horrid neighbour) physically spry. However she had dementia and I dont so thats a blessing.

Just realised I've said this earlier but thought i was about 55!
It's an old thread!
Apologies.

I was about 50. My (previously lovely) knees had lost some definition.
....miserable!

Cherrytree Don’t worry about seeing your family at the wedding. Sadly at family occasions I have noticed that several of my younger cousins seem to be catching up with me.

When I was asked my age - such as in the bank or the doctor's - and nobody looked surprised!

Ooh, how rude of them! 🤣

I can’t remember exactly his old I was but it was when I grunted “Oof!” when I sat down and had to push myself up again by the armrests! gringrin

It seems we all aged considerably in the past 3 years. It hasn’t been an easy time.

I’m 70 in December and avoid looking in the mirror more than absolutely necessary because I see my mother looking back at me 🫣
Since developing heart failure nearly 5 years ago, and being on multiple medications, I have definitely aged poorly.
So…I have had my hair cut, bought some brighter coloured clothes, intend to wear makeup and do my nails again and buck myself up!
I do need to shift a stone or so which won’t be easy as I can’t do a lot of exercise, but at least I can try. I have loads of interests to keep me occupied and I really need to live while I can if you know what I mean!

Glasses, two replaced joints, wonky knees, one auto-immune condition, denture and now hearing aids.
Ageing? What, me?

I look younger than my age but inside I feel every year.

For me, I think the real problem is that I don’t feel like I’m myself anymore.
I think I have to adjust my personality to suit a rather plump aging granny. Sometimes I forget I’m not 35.

There’s been a few moments, but of late I woke up yesterday morning, my right eye didn’t feel right, checked in mirror and looks like my eyelid has either gone abit droopy with eyelid skin flapping down

Yes we should Calendargirl but it's human nature isn't it? I'm not trying to say be grateful because you could be me. It's all relevant.

Calendargirl Sat 18-Feb-23 12:23:58

Kate1949

Your last post makes me aware of how we should be grateful for what we have.

I bet you all look much better than you think.
Sara Tough is the word. I know I look younger than my 73 years. However, it is an illusion. My hair is false, my teeth are false. It has been tough, really hard. I'm not vain but just trying to have what most women have, hair and teeth, has been difficult, expensive and traumatic.

When I had to get stronger lenses in my glasses 2 years ago and then saw myself in the mirror. I'm getting my eyes tested on Weds and know I'm going to need new ones so I'm sure I'll age another 5/10 years when I get them.

Once I'd turned 60 , I'm 62 now , I felt as though someone had flicked a switch . I try not to dwell on it but I don't see the same person looking back in the mirror anymore and last Tues I popped into Iceland to benefit from the over 60s discount and the young girl on the till said she didn't need my proof of age , she'd already applied it . Went home and ate a big cream cake lol .

I blame the mirror,it tells lies.
I`m still breathing,that will do.

Absolutely !
