Name Labels for School. Can anybody help?

Hello, everyone!
My son needs his rugby kit named for sport. And his other games clothes. I have brought his nametapes already but am terrible with a needle!
Thus I'm looking to see if someone else could help sew the labels in. I know there must be some ladies out there who have practice!
If you have any suggestions or know someone who'd be willing, please let me know.

P.S. I am based in London and Warwickshire

I managed to get some for our GD's clothes, when our son was a single dad, which could be sewn in or could be attached with a little plastic gadget, a bit like those tags that attach price labels. They came as a set with ones for clothes and some for shoes, which stuck on. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I got them, but they were really useful.

Oops I can’t write either….
I can’t sew for toffee that should say

Callistemon21 Tue 28-Mar-23 16:33:30

It has to be done properly Germanshepherdsmum!

No botched jobs.

Take lessons on how to sew a name tape in? I can’t believe you’re unable to do such a simple, albeit boring, task. Have you tried looking on YouTube?

BlueBelle Tue 28-Mar-23 16:28:06

You don’t need lesson sophie it’s literally in and out about 20 times I really can’t see how anyone can fail 😂
I can spew for toffee but they really are t rocket science a five year old could do them

If I lived nearer, I'd pop round to help, Sophie
But I'd show you, not do it for you

Wow! I am overwhelmed by all the messages.
I didn't think name labels would cause such a catastrophe.
In our case, his school does specify they want the sewn on labels for the rugby kit so that is the way it is! Maybe I ought to take lessons somewhere...

It's not rocket science!
I recommend using a thimble though, pushing the needle through a garment and a label can make your fingers sore.

Ziplok Tue 28-Mar-23 16:07:08

Seriously, maybe there’s another mum who’s adept with a sewing needle?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 28-Mar-23 16:06:20

Well, £10 each … could be quite lucrative!

Ziplok Tue 28-Mar-23 16:05:52

😂😂.

Me too Calli - unless of course an arrangement has been via pm. I fear we’ll never know but I rather suspect there are no takers despite some members definitely being in one of the OP’s areas. I wonder what the going rate per tag is?

£10?

I'm another who just put the surname in
You can't do that in Wales 😂😂😂

Your local dry cleaner is your friend.

Decades ago I sent those pesky Cash's name tapes along with the togs and the very nice lady did the job, around 50 pence a label, if I remember rightly. Worth every penny!

I can sew - but never wanted to do name tapes. I used to take everything to the local uniform shop (although I didn't buy from there) and they would do it for a small fee. I'm another who just put the surname in.

No takers yet then?

I am surprised!

You are kidding! A bit early for April fools Sophie

I still have packets in my sewing box - must have over-ordered many years ago or perhaps I just got bored and wrote their names on the washing labels with indelible pen.

Me too. I was very thrifty and crafty and managed to get all three first names and our surname onto one tape, so I could just fold them appropriately and they’d do for any of the DC. Obviously I wasn’t sufficiently thrifty to avoid over-ordering.

I’m hanging onto them just in case one of my 40 somethings ever needs a name tape sewing into their coat. grin

You could save them for the grandchildren, for use when their aged parent is in a care home and needs her clothes labelled. Oh, no, I've just thought - maybe the girls won't be recognised by then by their maiden name.

I'm waiting for one of them to become famous and then the labels will be collectors' items 😁

These are the self adhesive name labels I recommended earlier. They go through the washing machine hundreds of times and don’t come off. So much easier than sewing them in and more comfortable as some labels are lumpy on kids clothes. I got 60 labels for about £10.

I soon gave up the sewing and just used marker pen or biro. Didnt even write all the name on them. Wrote just as much as needed.
I used to find short cuts for all sorts of things. Still do.

We use Stamptasic stamps. You get the person’s name on a little stamp and a stamp pad and that’s all you need. It lasts 50 washes at least. It’s absolutely brilliant. Having sewed hundreds of these when my girls were young it’s a relief to simply stamp the name on.

Blondiescot Tue 28-Mar-23 11:55:12

I am utterly useless when it comes to sewing, but even I managed to sew name labels on my in-laws' clothes for them going into a care home. A couple of stitches at each end of the label was all it took.
