What's the best walking sandal?

I want some new walking sandals. I'd like some arch support, and a soft inside sole with some give in it. Looking at them the prices vary from £95+ to around £29. I don't mind spending the money if they are the best. Do you wear them and which brand? What would you recommend?

I wear Merrell children’s sandals as I have small feet. They are light and supportive and ideal for me as I have dropped foot and mobility issues.

They do women’s walking sandals, around £90 but lots of online discounts and offers. Obviously I haven’t tried the women’s ones but I think they would be the same quality as the children’s.

I bought these this week. They are Austrian and so comfortable.

I love my trusty old Merrells. Had them for years and they are so comfy!

Merrells, though I had a pair that only lasted 12 months. The new pair seem back to sturdy soles

Thanks 2 makes I hadn't heard of. I'm going to look at them.

There are so many good sandals now, it's just a matter of style, and purpose of use.

I like a leather sandal with formed footbed. My favourites were a dressier Teva, but they don't make that style any more. These Clarks are nice.

I wear Keens Clearwater. My current pair are 6 years old, and I must have walked at least 10,000 miles in them, and they are still going strong. They have fabulous grip, so a brilliant for hills and even some gentle scrambling, you can splash in and out of water in them without worry, and I prefer the closed fronts to save my toes on rough ground, and to help keep gravel and little stones out.

I am an EEE fitting as I have bunions. I bought a lovely pair of navy sandals from Van Dal for a cruise. Unfortunately the lining was all rucked up so I returned them only to find they were sold out. As had every other stockist in the U.K. I was told they would have them in again this year but they haven’t nor have they got any other sandal in this fit. I cannot understand if these particular sandals are sold out everywhere they haven’t made more.

Every other EEE sandal I’ve seen online is really frumpy. Why do retailers assume because you are unlucky enough to have wide feet that’s what you want? I’m on holiday atm with just Skechers and flip flops.

Keen. Mine have trecked worldwide. 20 years old still wearing them. Great for wet and dry stuff

No-one can recommend a trekking sandal online, as they vary greatly and what suits my feet, legs and back, may very well not suit yours,

Go to a good outdoor store or shoe-shop and try various sandals on - the shop assistant should be able to advise you as to which one is giving you the support you need.

If you already have a favourite pair of shoes or boots, start by finding out if the firm makes trekking sandals as well, as these may suit you as well as their shoes do.

Here again, Merrell. I’ve had them for around 10 years. They’re very comfortable and supportive on less easy terrain.

Another vote for Merrell here!!
