I usually scrape out the mud and stones when dry and them wash them under the tap.

I'm another who shoves them in the washing machine! IO agree its worthwhile filling the machine to stop the shoes from damaging the drum

Tbh I'd bin them and buy a pair of boots.

There's no way I'd put them in my washing machine.

Give yo hubby and watch his OCD Mick in, they'll come back spotless albeit after a lot of swearing.

Sorry that's what I'd do but realistically either hose them off then bang them inside a pillow case and stick them in a washing machine. So long as they aren't the type that will fall apart they'll be fine.

• Scrape off as much mud after drying them out.
• Put in washing machine with some old towels. (As long as they’re not leather.)
• Air dry only (on a sunny windowsill), NEVER put on a radiator.
• When almost dry, stuff some wash cloths inside to reshape shoes.
• Dry completely before wearing.

This works on all non-leather trainers, tennies.

As a retired PE teacher my trainers were like this many a time... Use a wet cloth/ kitchen roll to get worst muck off or let dry and use wire brush to remove. Then put in a delicates bag and put in washing machine, quick wash 30 deg. I dried mine on top of radiator in winter, outside hanging on washing line in summer but up to you. Never had a problem in 40 years and I had good expensive trainers. Hope this helps.

Washing machine, all mine go in there

Should have worn walking boots perhaps! You've nothing to lose given the state of them, put in the washing machine, bio detergent, cold wash.

Fairycakes Wed 13-Dec-23 14:22:38

Biological soap powder is good for getting dirt out of trainers and pumps.

Good advice from ‘Septimia’ they will be fine (I put mine in a pillow case in the washing machine on delicates wash 30•)👍
Dry on rad or in the airing cupboard l…
Then buy yourself some wellies or country boots 👍😊 xxx

once they are washed on dried use a "magic sponge". It is really superb on shoes and boots!

sazz1 Wed 13-Dec-23 13:17:10

Rinse well then put in washing machine. I've read that cleaning with toothpaste removes stains but not tried it.

Fairycakes Wed 13-Dec-23 12:58:52

If you put them into the washing machine, I would put them into a bag or pillow case first, to stop them bouncing around.

MaizieD Wed 13-Dec-23 12:58:16

I've put my leather trainers in the washing machine for years, not a problem.

Stuffing them with newspaper after washing helps them to dry faster.

Hedgehog2908 Wed 13-Dec-23 12:54:22

If you put them in the washing machine make sure you have a full load so you don't damage the drum.

pce612 Wed 13-Dec-23 12:44:07

Don't put leather trainers in the washing machine.

Greyduster Wed 13-Dec-23 12:32:34

Another here who puts them in the washing machine. Never had any mishaps yet. DD does it with all their trainers too. 30 degree wash.

Mo65 Wed 13-Dec-23 11:45:47

Definitely put them in the washing machine. I've been doing it for years. Put them on top of a radiator to dry afterwards

OldFrill Mon 11-Dec-23 18:10:55

I rinse mine under the garden tap then put them in the washing machine.

Aveline Mon 11-Dec-23 13:06:07

Drop off!

Aveline Mon 11-Dec-23 13:05:53

Eek! What a state they're in. Good luck cleaning them. I expect quite a lot could drop of with a good brushing once they've dried out the do as Septimia suggests.
Are you all right yourself after that muddy yomp?

Aldom Mon 11-Dec-23 13:05:31

With mud, BluebelleGran I leave the boots /trainers on newspaper in a warmish place and wait for them to dry. Once dry it's fairly easy to brush off the mud. I have a special wire shoe brush for this purpose.

Septimia Mon 11-Dec-23 13:01:48

Let the mud dry and brush off as much as you can, then rinse off under the tap. After that, pluck up courage, remove any inner soles and the laces and bung the lot in the washing machine. Cross your fingers and hope they come out wearable - 'cos they certainly aren't at the moment!!

How do I clean my very muddy trainers after a walk along the Pembrokeshire costal path. Don’t know where to start except put on my rubber gloves. Thanks for any advice.
