Inane chat in Radio 2

Maggiemaybe - that’s exactly what I mean when you mentioned the feature “What would Sally do?” Ridiculous, time-wasting trash. I know that Radio 2 is there to entertain (some programmes may inform and educate too, but not so much on Radio 2) but, come on, that’s just plain silly. It’s scraping the barrel for entertainment. I can’t agree with you about Lisa Tarbuck though - especially when she squeezes that squeaky toy on a regular basis - what’s that all about!? Let’s have more of the Johnnie Walker type DJ who has just the right amount of chat/music ratio without resorting to talking absolute rubbish. I do like Jeremy Vine, although he is often much maligned.

I like Gary Davies, I can’t stand Jeremy Vine pontificating, but I’m with you on Steve Wright PestyOne.
Ultimately it’s all down to personal taste, as this thread has clearly demonstrated.

I started listening to JW on Radio Caroline in the 60's. More recently I used to listen to Drivetime on my way home and I can remember him with a doctor (I think) about laughter and how if one person laughs others start to. The dr started to laugh, JW joined in and before I knew it I was giggling my head off. Luckily there wasn't much traffic.

I can't stand Tony Blackburn's childish and unfunny jokes.
Steve Wright irritates me by singing over songs and 'Ooo Gary' is cheesier than a shed full of blue stilton.

On a positive, I really like Jo Wiley, enjoy the topical debates on Jeremy Vine, think Ryan is funny and just love Lisa Tarbuck.

I think it's the chit chat and banter that gives the station personality.

We all have different tastes in music and preferred personality types, so Aunty Beeb can't please all of the people all of the time 😉.

If I just want music and no travel updates, news or chat; then I as Alexa to play 80's music or whatever other genre I'm in the mood for (Do luv a bit of Dolly Parton 🤠).

The main thing that Radio 2 has going for it is the sound quality. Radio Scotland is so bad that you can't listen to music on it.

I used to love listening to Johnny Walker’s Drivetime show with Sally Boazman doing the traffic reports. They were such a great double act I would often be crying with laughter over their antics. Those were the days!

I haven't listened to BBC radio 2 for a long time. My preferred listening is Scala Radio or Boom Radio.

I really miss the BBC Radio Kent presenters, who have left - Steve Ladner, Julia George, Ray Clark to name a few. Ray now has two programmes on Radio Caroline, but I don’t know where Steve and Julia have gone.

My first memories of radio 1 are listening to Tony Blackburn on his morning show as I was getting ready and having my breakfast in my last year of primary school.

Like kittylester I am coming round to the new Radio 2 line up, I do enjoy Sara Cox at tea time and I am starting to enjoy Vernon Kay.

I agree that some DJs do witter on a lot. Vernon Kay and Rylan do it too much, think it's just a time-filler. Sounds of the 70s with Johnnie Walker is the best show of the week (I'm a girl of the 70s!). The rest of the time, I prefer the music of R2, just tuning in to GHR for Popmaster.

I can't stand Zoe Ball's babbling and I don't like Vernon's manic laughter every 5 minutes.

Loved Ken Bruce - his voice is perfect, and he has a good dry sense of humour - and have followed him to Greatest Hits Radio even though I have to put up with their adverts.

Some people enjoy chit chat, either on the radio or on here. Either participate or move on to something that interests you, but don’t knock it. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t drink it.

Sounds of the 70's? I always tune into it. Loved Johnny Walker when he was on Radio 1 in the 70's. He got fired for refusing to play the Bay City Rollers.

I have stopped listening to Jeremy Vine. He is like a moaning old woman. He goes on and on about certain topics, speaks over callers and is just so boring.

He’s laughing though because he gets paid a fortune. We are keeping him in work on radio and his ch 5 morning prog which is even worse than the radio.

It doesn’t bother me, I like to hear a bit of banter between the songs. It’s nothing new, Terry Wogan, and Jimmy Young were both born to it.
