Just wondering whether very fine thin hair is better cut in a slightly longer style, say just below ear lobes, all one length.Or maybe a bit shorter in layers? I hope you understand what I'm getting at.It sounds a little confusing!😟😟

In my youth (long ago!) I had fine copper coloured hair and was a model for Vidal Sassoon , who used to show his students on me. So he would give me a haircut and then I had to stand up, put my head down and shake it from side to side and then stand up. The hair would fall back to his great cut, and that was the secret, The very well cut hair always looks better and shapes well. My hair is white now and perhaps even finer, and I still stick to that. Find the best hairdresser you can and check them out. Then the good cut will help with both the shaping and the style of your hair. I swim most weeks to help my back and so only spend my money on the good cut, not hairdo s etc and my hair is expected to look decent with just reasonable shampoo and conditioner. Then it is a matter of brushing it or combing it in the morning and forgetting about it.

I've got fine hair and my hairdresser advised me to have it layered to give it body. I thought I'd like to grow it longer but she suggested to keep it to chin level at the sides and slightly raised around the back - and I've had some compliments AND it's easy to look after.
In my youth I had very long hair which I stuffed into a short wig sometimes which was fun. I also went for cropped hair when I was thinner in body shape and it was so easy to look after. Alas I'm shorter now and a little weightier so I take advice more readily!!!!

This is the sort I'm thinking:

My hair looked like this for most of my life. I used to spend ages drying it straight! 😂
Now it’s finer it’s easier to manage.
Different hairstyles suit different face types. Go with what you’re happiest with.

Ha ham J52 - I think this sort of thing looks great on older women. It looks perky somehow, and alert.
Not like the "nan perms" of my youth!

My silver locks are fine and curly. I used to have my hair cut and blow-dried regularly but during the lockdown my layers grew out and I found that a relaxed style suited me. I keep it short, have got rid of my hair-dryer and now simply scrunch it after shampooing. It does its own thing!

Old thread.

Hope OP decided what to do with her hair.

Razor cut layered bob, adds body and is easy to style

My Granddaughter will shortly reach 21. I want to buy her something special but can't ask her because she'll just say she wants money. Her mother and other grandparents buy her expensive jewellery, I can't compete there, so no point.
Any ideas for a special gift?
