Mother of the Groom outfit woes

Hi everyone. I'm getting myself in such a flap as the dress I have bought for my son's wedding was 'cheap' and although I feel great in it, I can't help feeling that I won't look sophisticated enough. I know it looks lovely on but I'm having sleepless nights knowing other ladies pay hundreds for these occasions. I've added some photos, I have the navy one. I will be wearing nude and rose gold accessories. Please help put my mind at rest 😊

I am probably biased because I think that your dress is lovely, and very much the sort of style that I would wear. You have already said that you feel great in it and that is what is important. I wore silk dresses to two of my children's weddings, felt very comfortable in them, no creasing, and I have worn both of them since.
From you photographs, you look very stylish in the dress, and as it is silk it should hang beautifully, and I'm sure your son will be very proud of you.

It's a very 'in' style at the moment.

I'd go for navy too.

With pretty shoes or sandals with heels if you're able to wear them.

I think it looks lovely. I wore navy to my son's wedding. My daughter is getting married in June, but the wedding is abroad, so I've gone for a blush pink this time as it felt more 'summery'.

I spent far too much on my MOB outfit, and although it was beautiful it wasn’t really my style. I’ve never worn it since and am never likely to. I vowed that if either of my sons ever got married (now looking unlikely) I would spend a lot less but buy something more my usual style that I could feel comfortable in. The dress looks lovely and suitable for the style of wedding. The price is immaterial, just relax and have a wonderful day!

I've been MoG twice - same groom both times! The first time I wore a shirt-waist dress with a jacket that matched the main colour of the dress. The second time, a more informal 'do' and I was a lot older by that time, so matched up navy wide-leg trousers with matching jacket and a very pretty top. I didn't feel in the least out of place either time. I hope there won't be another MoG occasion, though I hold out hopes for a GC wedding one day! I'd always advocate wearing what you feel comfortable in as from beginning to end, a wedding takes quite a long time. Comfortable shoes most important!

PS. meant to say: the navy dress looks great and more elegant than the pale one. You wouldn't stand out in the latter.

‘ Have you liased with the Mother of the Bride’
I’m not sure that would prove helpful in this instance as the OP is concerned that her outfit looks cheap,.

If you are unsure of the outfit you have put together ,I doubt that anyone on GN telling you that it looks fine will assuge your feelings .
I would say , follow the advice of the GN’s who say try Charity Shops , I have found many a Wedding Outfit in a CS .
My own sister paid a lot of Money for her mother of The Grooms outfit ,money she didn’t have & has it for sale on Vinted , which is another great place to buy. Though in that instance it’s always hit & miss that it will fit as well as you’d like .
The other option if money is an object is maybe “ borrow” from a friend , one of my close friends borrowed a jacket & bag from myself for her own Sons wedding, they were the ones I had brought & used for my own Daughters Wedding some years before .
I’m sure you will work it out ,

Personally, having looked again at the photos you have posted ,I think the grey looks fabulous. You can add a Fascinator & pretty bag & if you scour the Charity shops or Vinted you will grab a bargain I’m sure .
This one is currently for sale on Vinted for £2:50 . It is not mine btw .

The navy one is 100xs nicer than the pale one in my opinion, which looks like one of those toilet roll crinoline covers to me, but to be honest I don't like either of them much, but if you love it then go for it! I made my own outfit for the last wedding I went to , it was navy silk, took me hours but haven't worn it since. I did buy a big hat to go with, so maybe with a few accessories you'd be happier with your choice.

Tinacarol if you like the way the dress looks on, and like how it feels and moves, and the bride likes it, then the price is irrelevant.
We had my son's wedding recently and lots of the guests, including the bride's mother, had happily bought their outfits from Vinted!

I agree about having a comfortable pair of shoes, and would recommend wearing them in at home beforehand.
Mine weren't expensive (Pavers, sale) but on the day I wore them from 10am to 1am the following morning and never gave them a thought.

The one thing I wasn't happy with was my hair: I had it done that week and it ended up too short and not the colour I planned.
Hopefully no-one else noticed though 😣

The OP says in her first post that she has the navy one.

I think it's fab, and can be dressed up with accessories. Perhaps a colourful necklace ... think Prue Leith smile

Enjoy the wedding!

You feel great in the navy silk dress, the bride is happy with your choice, the majority of posts on here are positive - wear it and enjoy your son’s wedding!

I love the navy dress.

ufix1 Fri 19-Apr-24 16:25:27

What a beautiful dress and I love your reference via silk of the fusion of cultures . Just remember everyone will be focused on the bride and groom so just relax and enjoy yourself. Don't think for a moment all eyes will on you! Pack some comfy flats, have the time of your life as it's a special day and you have put much thought into your outfit.

Very lovely with the right shoes and the right jewelery.

If you feel good in something, that is what matters.

I would go with white or cream / bone heels and bag. Let the dress stand out. Accesories: Blue Lapis / Sapphire with 1 diamond or just gold either in white gold or yellow gold.
