Just that really. As a pensioner, will I be able to use my concessionary bus pass, issued in Lincolnshire, on regular London buses? I don't mean the open topped tourist buses.
Thanks, in anticipation of your replies

Once you are 66 you can get a free bus pass to use on buses after 9.30am in England and Wales and I think in Scotland. Weekend times are different and bank holidays but you need to go on the website for the area you want to travel.

I live in Merseyside here once men and women reach 60 we get a free bus / local train pass even use it on the ferry. Buses after 9.30. Once 66 we get one that means we can still use it here on buses , local train and ferry but also on buses in England and Wales.

Beechnut

Thank you Callistemon.

It's very confusing Beechnut.
There's a village near here which has a Welsh address and postcode but it's actually in England. The nearest secondary school is in Wales, a couple of miles away but the pupils don't get a free bus pass there. They do, however, get a free bus pass to a school in England which is miles away.

Wow getting your bus pass at 60 👌 That is the same as in London boroughs , where you can get a Freedom pass at age 60 👌

It's great using the bus pass in London, you can really explore and see the sights.. much more interesting than using the underground.. enjoy

welbeck Mon 22-Apr-24 17:44:21

it's a 60+ oyster card at age 60.
freedom pass is at age 66.
main difference is you cannot use a 60+ card outside london.
freedom, you can.
look for the red rose sign = right to ride.

welbeck Mon 22-Apr-24 17:47:17

it also saves a lot of money compared with using trains.
to use one's bus pass.
for non-londoners.
londoners over 60 can use trains free within boundaries and time restrictions.

Theexwife

Just googled it, yes you can, anywhere in England between 9.30am and 11pm.

Thanks for correcting me and that’s fabulous!!

I’m not sure you can use your bus pass outside of your county now??

Yes, you can use your bus pass out of the county of issue

I’m just curious which one of the 16 posters ahead of you gave you a snotty reply NotAGran❗️🤔 🤣

My Scottish bus pass is not valid in England.
But I have used it extensively all over, from the Borders to Orkney, to the Isle of Skye and the Mull of Kintyre as well as almost daily into Edinburgh
Very apt thread for Earth Day.
Thanks.

Yes, I have many times and the London overground. NOT the TUBE though. You can use it anywhere in the UK within it’s time restrictions.

Not in Scotland, Newatthis, and probably not in Wales or Northern Ireland either.

No time restrictions on the buses in Wales

Deedaa Mon 22-Apr-24 23:35:55

I rarely use a bus but I have used my pass to travel from Berkshire to Kensington and to travel round Putney.

TRANQUILITY1967 Tue 23-Apr-24 07:13:40

Yes I use mine everywhere in the usual times and any time on weekends.

Enjoy.

didn't know you could use it on trains ?
anyone else tried.
i'm talking of the red rose bus pass, issued in england, not london freedom pass.

I have a drawer with an oyster card, a 60+ oyster card and now finally a bus pass from Devon. Its a bit hit and miss which one I pick out to use.

Mamardoit Tue 23-Apr-24 09:22:49

Here in the shires we don't get a bus pass until we are 66 and we have to pay full on the train. Does anyone know if people who live where bus passes are issued at 60 can use them everywhere? Can a 60 year old Londoner get free bus travel in say Leicestershire? If they can find a bus of course.

Joseann Tue 23-Apr-24 09:50:55

No, the 60+ London Oyster card won't let us use it outside the capital. I've tried that one in vain for 6 years!

welbeck Tue 23-Apr-24 15:38:15

oyster cards only work in london.

welbeck Tue 23-Apr-24 15:39:16

as far as i know, the red rose symbol indicates the right to ride, in england.

humptydumpty Tue 23-Apr-24 16:09:19

I go to London frequently and have always been able to use my bus pass.
