Sadly , I must of walked up the garden with my eyes closed last night 🤔☹️😢
We were in the summer house watching a film until gone 10pm , FB is awash with stunning photos from all over my area of East Anglia ,Cambs, Lincs . Even a fabulous shot taken less than 5 miles away . Gutted 😞

Yes we did. They were amazing, but the pictures on FB from our area are far better than what we saw. I wonder how we missed those views.

They are better through a camera - don't understand why!

I've gone through assorted UK photos on Twitter and the furthest south I can find in Waltham Chase (NE of Southampton)

Jaxjacky Sat 11-May-24 09:24:41

My daughter is 5 miles south of there Chardy

There is a chance it will be evident again tonight. Ive seen them quite often but never as dramatic as in photos.

NotSpaghetti Sat 11-May-24 09:30:15

I saw some from Dorset Chardy and although I went out three times to look between 10 and 2 saw nothing.

My daughter said the images are seen best with a camera on a long exposure then more is revealed.

I don’t think you did.
I understand that what the human eye sees is not the same as what the camera records.
Don’t ask me why, I am sure there are some here who understand the physiology better than me!

Thanks Jaxjacky & NotSpaghetti

Smileless2012 Sat 11-May-24 09:43:58

Yes we did, for the first time smile

It looked like Weymouth was furthest south.... until I found photos from the Bembridge, Isle of Wight

Septimia Sat 11-May-24 09:46:39

We were surprised that it wasn't at all what we expected. Rather than "curtains" on the horizon we had an arch above us with a sort of tangle where the two sides met. Amazing.

RosiesMaw Sat 11-May-24 09:56:51

Don’t worry if you didn’t!
You can’t move on the internet today for pics of last night’s show!!!

Aurora Australis right now at 9pm our time. Not normally seen in the North Island NZ. We were told we might have power cuts too but so far so good.

So annoyed with myself! On holiday in N Norfolk in a ‘dark sky’ area and missed it. I wonder whether it will happen again tonight?

mamaa Sat 11-May-24 10:33:54

Yes, for the first time. Didn't see much from the garden just looking at the sky but using iphone they were amazing- no need to use a filter or enhance the photos at all.

mamaa Sat 11-May-24 10:34:14

Should have also said here in East Anglia

crazyH Sat 11-May-24 10:49:33

mamaa - that’s beautiful

gillgran Sat 11-May-24 11:47:16

We're also in East Anglia, (we missed them sad)!
Lots of photos on our local facebook pages, all saying how they need to be seen through a phone/camera rather than the naked eye.

Callistemon21 Sat 11-May-24 11:49:34

No, but they were visible from near here apparently.

Theexwife Sat 11-May-24 12:06:13

Not that impressive unless you take a pic in night mode , then it is stunning, supposed to be better tonight.

Borrheid55 Sat 11-May-24 13:53:33

Yes I did I am in Ashford Kent. A real treat! This from my bedroom window facing West

This is why I didn’t bother to go out looking for them last night. I used to get upset that I’d missed a fantastic display only to find that the pictures on Facebook could only be seen via a camera.

Ilovecheese Sat 11-May-24 14:38:42

I missed the lights I am sorry to say, but there are some lovely new plants in my garden!

MiniMoon Sat 11-May-24 19:40:07

DH was rather miffed that I didn't wake him to see the aurora. This is what we could see in my corner of Northumberland. Enhanced by the camera, not quite as colourful but still marvellous to see.
