I'm new on here and I also don't use social media. There are a lot of abbreviations and I don't know what they mean. Has anyone got a list, please?

Go to Terms of Use, you will see getting started on GN, there is a list of acronyms there.

Welcome Sandgrownum. I came over from Mumsnet where the acronyms are more prolific and harder to fathom. You'll get the hang of it!

You'll get used to them Sandgrownun they're usually self explanatory in the context of the overall post.

Welcome to GN smile.

Thank you everyone. Some of them are a bit strange with the dears & darlings.
As I'm only retiring (ill health) next month perhaps I'll treat myself to not having to learn any new acronyms or abbreviations for now and I'll write in full.
It's lovely how people answer questions on here, it feels very friendly.

A lot of us dislike the abbreviations as well Sandgrownun you are not alone. I would never refer to my family as dear children or darling husband.
We will continue to write in full.
Welcome to Gransnet.

Sandgrownun I always write everything in full. I don't like using abbreviations hence my rambles are always long.

Years ago a friend sent me a text cu hadn't long had a mobile no idea what it meant had to ask my daughter what it meant . Cu = see you.

Part of the trouble is that some people do not know what 'acronyms' means. I am not referring to the OP.

Why cannot the section just be called 'abbreviations'

I use DH etc, because I’m happy to refer to my family as Dear. (Also it saves the time needed to type things out in full.) That’s my choice, and others are equally entitled to do it the way they prefer. Welcome, Sandgrownun!

Ironic Monica 🙂 OP = original poster, in case Sandgrowmum doesn’t know.
