Thank you all for responding . callistemon I really appreciate the link. Think my first port of call will be the bank. I am so angry because the chap that took the order must have known what was to happen. At the time we decided on a decent carpet so it is a costly situation.
Should never have used my debit card. I will keep you posted on any developments.

Years ago I bought bedroom furniture from a company that went bust. i received a full refund even though the furniture had been put together and was being used in my kids bedroom! I didn't send it back. I still have the bookcase!

Hope you get this back via your Bank.
Happen to us years ago with Courts.. We orderd bedroom furniture for DD bedroom, they went under as we were due to get it.
We were so lucky, it had arrived in store, they honoured the orders they had in stock, so surprised when someone phoned us asking us to take delivery, what a relief.
We too paid by Debit card, I have never bought large items again on a Debit card, alway Credit card then paid it off.
With luck you might get your carpet?

A similar thing happened to us a good few years ago, we ordered, and paid for, a gas cooker, then the firm went bust a few weeks later. We ended up on the list of creditors, received money in dribs and drabs over a few years, then the supply dried up, with just under half the money still owing to us.
Shelflife, I hope you are luckier.

It looks as though Carpetright has been rescued by Tapi Carpets, saving some stores and jobs.
However, I can’t help with your query of whether your order will be honoured or not, but
PWC say it’s unlikely monies will be refunded.

Oh no!

We have used them in the past and they were very good.
No advice, sorry, except this link, but I do hope your bank is sympathetic

Carpetright has gone bust within days of me paying for a bedroom carpet. They took my cash and even sent a chap round to measure up and give me a fitting date!! I am upset and furious. Received post this morning basically telling me to contact my bank and see if they are in a position to refund me. Unfortunately and foolishly I paid with a debit card which I know is not as secure as a credit card. I will visit my bank as soon as I can but wondered if anyone could give me any reassurance on this matter. I am not a happy bunny!!
