Annexe living

I live in an annexe in my son’s garden, moved in October last year. I lived in the main house for two years before that so I was and still am on the voters roll for the main house. I pay council tax at the annexe. I’ve just received a letter asking me to confirm who is registered to vote at the annexe, currently there is no one. Many companies that I use say for something I’ve bought do not recognise the annexe address and this includes my credit card company and current account. My question is, if I go on the voters roll for the annexe will this cause issues when arranging credit or for my credit rating. Has anyone come across this before? Thanks in advance.

Does your annex has the same address as the main house or is is numbered say 1A?

If I understand you, you are saying that the annex has been rated separately for council tax and you are paying that.

Council tax payments do not show up on your credit file. If you don't pay your council tax it won't affect your credit rating.

The Royal Mail provides the addresses that you see in drop down lists for online registrations, buying things online and so on. It’s called the Postcode Address File or PAF:

www.poweredbypaf.com/

If your annex has a separate address, has the PAF been updated for it yet? Check here:

www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode

If it's not there go to where ir says --- I can’t find my address in Postcode Finder - and follow the instructions.

If or once it's listed in the PAF, I don’t see a problem. It would be no different to moving house at arms length or when new properties are built.

Does that make sense?
