Is this a scam?

Definitely a scam.

I've just looked at the sender, Urevo.com, and it sells fitness equipment!

Sounds like a scam….check the government website to see if your car is taxed.

You only need to look at the email address to know it is a scam!!

I always get reminders by email but I also put it on my phone calendar for when it's next due. Check on the DVLC website and they will tell you the exact date it's due.

You could always print off a paper copy of the receipt. Or if no printer, start a file on your computer hard drive for Car or even a Car folder on your email and save the receipts into that, along with anything else about the car. Then easy to check. I always ignore any request for payment and check with the provider if in any doubt. Scams for Amazon and DHL are the ones I mainly get but if by phone and if a robotic sounding voice I cut them off anyway unless expecting something like a taxi.

I keep getting emails from these people

telling me my car tax is due. I usually get a letter and a green form, if memory isn't playing up, and pay online. But I have no paperwork, and as we have no tax discs any more, I just don't know if my car is taxed or not.
The insurance is due in November.
I don't know about you, but life was a lot easier when everything was written on paper!
Do I just ignore it?

Couple of days ago, I had a very irate man on the phone telling me that if I don’t pay them the money I owe Amazon, they would send the police to my door. I use Amazon a lot, and my Credit Card is registered with them. I put the phone down, ofcourse and straight away checked the balance on my bank accounts. I think they target older people, scaring them into paying up 😡

I had someone saying they were from 'Sky' something and I needed to pay over £200 which I had allegedly agreed to when I bought whatever service it was. I said I hadn't bought anything from Sky. He said 'Well then, we shall deduct the amount required from your bank account'. I said 'Oh no you won't!' Very angrily, and he slammed the phone down!

My son tells me I should put the phone down as soon as I realise it's a potential scammer, but I like to give them a hard time!

That’s why I opted to pay my car tax monthly, so it never runs out and if I see it on my bank statement, I know it’s paid.

I pay mine by direct debit too, I feel much safer that way.

There does seem to be an awful lot of this type of thief around these days. I gather it's partly down to the fact that many British callcentres were put overseas by the firms (in order to save themselves the cost of higher British salaries). Then some of them have been brought back - but the staff in some of the foreign callcentres just stayed put and "turned their hand" to doing scammer phonecalls instead of legitimate ones.

Definitely a scam! Delete it. It's horrible ,but we must now be super-careful, especially if an email or text message arrives unexpectedly.

Last week my DH had a text message from an unfamiliar number just saying 'Dad, save this number.' If DH had done that, the next thing would have been a request for money to replace a 'lost phone' or something!

It’s got diddly squat to do with call centres moved abroad.
It is a gigantuous industry.
There is a small town built by a Chinese owner to facilitate this business.
It is estimated that there are 7,000 people working there, many of them are prisoners that were sold to the Chinese owner.
They can’t leave.

Nobody is going to stop this horror so it’s up to everyone to be alert. And educate yourself.

They are both scams.
Don't click on links, pay on line, give your bank details out.
Some scams supply a telephone number to make payments but they won't be legitimate numbers. Never call them, get the number yourself.
Close the emails, block and delete.
I've had several DVLA emails and I don't drive or own a car.
You can always contact DVLA to ask.

I'm getting odd messages about Google Play, a bit odd so just ignoring them at the mo, but still alarming.
It makes me a bit wittery & nervous, modern living is not for the faint of heart alas! 🤔

Ignore please-I don’t even open emails unless I know for certain where they’re coming from nor do I open text from those that I do not know because when you do the person on the other end has your details. It’s a tough world out there with regards to IT for sure!

The person on the other end already has your email address or phone number or you wouldn’t get emails or texts from them! Opening them does no harm, just don’t click on any links or respond. Then delete and block.
