What kind of stupid callous person steals a baby wombat from its mother?

All over the news last night the attention seeking Samantha Strable posted, now removed, videos of her laughing as she takes a baby wombat from its mum causing both great distress and then leaves it in the road. She has now fled Australia. How can someone be so crass insensitive and stupid? She has a bad record as well including killing a deer with a knife in New Zealand and other hunting sprees in her home US.

Unfortunately she wasn’t deported she left the country voluntarily
What a dxxxhead, an attention seeking idiot
Poor little thing was crying for its mum, I too was worried the mum would get run over or lose sight of the poor little thing Total idiots both of them I hope she never ‘influences’ anyone again

I hope mother and baby were reunited. A disgraceful and cruel thing to do. I would love to see her try it with a crocodile next time.

I think she took it back to the mother but that doesn’t excuse her stupid and heartless behaviour. 😡

In answer to the OP's question. A dozy influencer, that's who.

I was worried in case the Mum could smell human scent on her baby and abandon it. I sincerely hope not.

Hopefully her idiotic 'career' is over but there will some cretins with the same mindset who will find it just as amusing as her and her cameraman did.

Calendargirl Fri 14-Mar-25 13:01:14

I hope Australia denies her a visa in future.

Ziplok Fri 14-Mar-25 13:07:06

She is disgusting and so is the individual who took the video of her, too, making his despicable comments whilst filming her stupid and cruel behaviour. Shame on the pair of them.

David49 Fri 14-Mar-25 13:17:32

I’ve see the video of the event, the young woman looked like she is dressed for a party, maybe it had just finished, maybe a couple of glasses of Chardonnay influenced her

Stupid and thoughtless

ViceVersa Fri 14-Mar-25 13:43:41

Having seen other clips of her with her 'hunting trophies', I think she's more than just stupid and thoughtless.

grannybuy Fri 14-Mar-25 13:49:34

If only people didn’t follow ‘ influencers ‘!

SillyNanny321 Fri 14-Mar-25 13:53:30

This woman has a record of stupidity! Both she & her cameraman need a good slap my Nan would have said & volunteered to do it!

pably15 Fri 14-Mar-25 14:03:08

Senseless attention seeker, does she think animals have no feelings?

Churchview Fri 14-Mar-25 14:17:55

Just despicable. How anyone can take pleasure in the tormenting and killing of wild animals is beyond me.

Horrendously I witnessed a wild red stag being killed by the hunt in Devon last week. Twenty or more, so say civilized, people out for a jolly. Dressed up to the nines in tweeds and red coats, blowing horns and tearing along with baying hounds. They pursued the magnificent creature to exhaustion and then shot it. This in full view of many horrified folk out for a quiet walk on a public footpath.

This goes on quite legally ever week in the UK.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised. We often assume that because Americans speak a version of English, that they share our values. They absolutely don't. A society that tolerates their levels of gun violence, racism, poverty and exclusion is no different to one that tolerates abusing animals for amusement.

I had the misfortune to witness something similar a number of years ago and it literally made me physically ill.

I simply can't understand the mindset of this violent and cowardly act.

Churchview Fri 14-Mar-25 14:32:26

Dee1012 I'm so sorry you saw suffered this. It made me physically ill too. So brutal and utterly unnecessary.

Not just the physical act of cruelty, but the fact that a certain section of our society dress up for this and plan it as a nice social day out. Makes you lose your faith in humanity.

I cannot understand how it still legal here in the UK when bear baiting, hare coursing and cock fighting are illegal.

David49 Fri 14-Mar-25 14:34:50

I think it will be a few years before she can get a Australia visa again

It is illegal here in Scotland. To be honest, I thought there were similar laws in England and Wales too.

HettyBetty Fri 14-Mar-25 14:38:57

I have no interest in influencers and had never heard of her.

A few days "community service" with crocodiles would have been appropriate imo.

Churchview Fri 14-Mar-25 14:48:32

ViceVersa In England it's illegal to hunt with a pack of dogs but there is a legal loophole which makes it perfectly legal to 'flush out' deer with up to two dogs and shoot them. Apparently in the SW England there are several hunting packs who do this three or four times a week.

I've just had a look and I think this loophole applies in Scotland too. I'm no expert, so I could be wrong. (I hope I am).

There is a lot of undisclosed cruelty to domestic and wild animals. You hear about the headline cases, most get off with a warning

Actually, I think you may well be correct about that loophole - and it's high time that was stopped too.

I don't think its a loophole but a considered plan to manage numbers, see link below.

I hope that stupid woman looses all her followers now.

The SW has a big problem with Deer numbers they are doing a lot of damage, not to mention road accidents, they have to be culled to keep numbers down.
A local wildlife group have a woodland that was home to a small group of fallow but was damaging the trees, Forestry Commission shot them.

No, she dumped it at the side of the road.

Sarnia that worried me too.

The cameraman should be named and shamed too. Who is he? 🤬

I'd never heard of her before and hope I never hear of her again.
