I only moved to this area last year and when I found a hairdresser she charged me £30 for a cut and blow dry. I have very short straight hair so it's not a massively difficult or long job.

After Christmas the price went up to £33 and my next cut in June is going to be £36.

This is a semi-rural village and it's an extension in the house - not swanky by any standards.

When she did my highlights I was a bit shocked that it was £110 - the salon I went to prior to moving charged me £80.

Just wondered how much others pay?

I pay £38 for a regular (every 6 to 8 weeks) trim and blow dry. Pre-Covid I paid £18 for a wet cut, but that salon closed after Covid and the new one won’t do wet cuts.

My regular dry cut’s going up from £20 to £22 next time (West Yorkshire). I’m always very pleased with the result - he takes his time, regales me with some very tall stories, and always makes me a cuppa.

Pre-Covid I paid £50 for a top stylist in Bath. Now he charges £60 but I’ve let my hair grow long in the last 5 years and not had it cut. Must have saved £2,000! So I don’t feel guilty if there’s anything I fancy buying like clothes.

I live in a London suburb and I wash my hair and it is cut for £20. It is not a brilliant cut, but the local hairdressers charge £50 minimum for shampoo, cut and blow dry.

My lovely hairdresser, who I had been going to for 12 years, moved and I have been trying to find another one to do my hair as I like ever since. I found one salon locally who charged £35 and, at first was pleased with my haircut but she made a

Whoops hadn’t finished.. but she made a real mess the second time. I have now found another who charges £49.50 but she’s now done a good job twice so I may have to take a deep breath and fork out. I do my own colour now though as far too expensive.

I have very short, straight hair and a nice chap comes round and cuts if for me every six or seven weeks. He charges me £15. He originally started with DH's hair and I realised that my hair wasn't any longer than his, so I said please cut mine. He's about the same age as me so I think he just has a handful of customers now for a bit of extra income.

I have a shampoo and blow dry every two weeks £10 but when I have a cut as well every six weeks or so it’s £20. I have foil highlights three times a year when there’s an offer on, this last time was 10% off £45.
I’m very lucky as my hairdresser is a lovely girl who comes to my house and has been doing so for years. She also used to cut my husbands wonderful head of hair and when he became ill and worried about having it cut she did it free of charge.
I live in Staffordshire and all my friends are grumbling about how expensive hair dressing has become now in fact one of my carers paid £140 for highlights, trim and blow dry, wow, yes I am lucky.

Cut and blow dry is £60 here in West Berkshire. She does a great job and always fits me in somehow, even at short notice.

My friend kindly gives my short hair a wet trim every 4-5 weeks and refuses to take money so I pay for her bingo game which is £15.

I stopped dying my hair 25 years ago and luckily it doesn’t need blow drying either - just run fingers through it with some gel.

She pays her own mobile hairdresser £40 for a cut and blow dry and £50 extra for her hair dye sessions.

Here in South Yorkshire, I pay £40 every six weeks or so for a cut and blow dry, and it has gone up twice since I started to use this hairdresser when the one I had been going to for over thirty years retired after the pandemic. I didn’t think I would find another one as good, but this one is better - a wonderful cutter - so I don’t mind the price.

I think ithe cost can also be who does your hair. My local one ( Southampton) the boss charges a premium if she cuts your hair, but her two other hairdressers cost less if they do it. ie £40 for a wash cut and dry, opposed to £28 if done by one of the other girls

GrannyIvy Fri 02-May-25 06:13:22

I pay £120 every 7/8 weeks for a cut blow dry and roots coloured in Peterborough.

I have very little hair left because of a thyroid condition. My hairdresser charges me £45 every three months (it doesn't grow fast either) but always gives me something to take away e.g. shampoo, volumniser etc. I think he feels sorry for me 😂
I don't mind the expense because I only need to go four times a year and he's a lovely man.

£17 for a dry cut, local, nice salon and just a short walk for me

I used to pay £60 in a plush salon, the phone would ring and she would always stop and answer it and I never felt valued. At first she was good, then became careless and took 20 minutes. I left

The dry cut now is excellent and I never blow dry my short hair anyway

karmalady Fri 02-May-25 07:13:03

£60 was for cut and blow dry

mumofmadboys Fri 02-May-25 07:20:29

I have long hair. Cut twice a year. I go with washed wet hair and it costs £20 in a salon in the hairdressers garden.

BlueBelle Fri 02-May-25 07:22:31

There’s some big prices there
I pay £18 for wash cut and blow dry every 5 weeks I have a pixie cut and like it

Astitchintime Fri 02-May-25 07:27:41

East Midlands and I pay £38 for a wash, cut and blow dry - worth every penny. A colour costs me anything from £85 to £105 depending on how many foils, and colours are used……again worth every penny.
What some people fail to acknowledge is that energy prices, water rates, employers N.I. have all increased and businesses have little choice but to pass these costs on to the customer.

If people want a cheaper appointment there’s always the option of booking into their local college where hairdressing is taught - quite often they’re accepting clients for students to work on.

NanKate Fri 02-May-25 07:32:33

South Buckinghamshire-I paid £64.00 for a cut and blow dry last week and I was very pleased with the result.

luluaugust Fri 02-May-25 07:33:30

£49 for a cut and blow dry in W Kent. This is much cheaper than the most upmarket hairdressers in the town.

Homestead62 Fri 02-May-25 07:36:07

I'm still looking for a hairdresser since my regular one closed. Average here seems to be £50-£60 for cut and blow dry here.

argymargy Fri 02-May-25 07:43:56

I managed to pay just shy of £200 for colour, highlights, cut & blow last week. Not London but a town where footballers, doctors and wealthy immigrants live. I keep thinking it’s ridiculous but I love the owner and trust them completely!

J52 Fri 02-May-25 07:44:46

£45. here in the E Midlands for a cut and blow dry every 6 weeks, but I did notice a sign saying from April the charges were going up.

Lovetopaint037 Fri 02-May-25 07:45:06

I have a hairdresser who has cut my hair for a long time. She used to work in a salon in London. She was the senior cutter there and I used to pay £80 a few years ago . When she decided to leave for a salon closer to home about five years ago I asked if she would be prepared to come to my house and cut my hair. She lived not far from me and agreed so she fits me in with her work. The first time she charged me£40 but I gave her £60. I have over the years offered to up it but she has refused. If I went to her in her place of work it would cost me a lot more. Also as I have become more prone to falls and other problems it has been a bonus for her to drive to me and I really enjoy her company.
