Ask a gran

What was the outcome for these GN's.

Sometimes a post resonates with me and I would love to know the outcome.
Two that stick in my mind was a lady having dreadful problems with a painful leg which needed regular dressing. She was clearly very distressed by the poor treatment from her GP surgery and the pain and constant weeping from her leg.
The other was a Granny who had given a box of biscuits to the playgroup staff when her GD left to go to school. Granny had collected her 4 days a week for a couple of years so had got to know them. It was her way of saying thank you. When her daughter found out she hit the roof and stopped speaking to her Mum.
Both these posts had pages of replies but I would love to know if the lady is no longer suffering with her leg and if, now that term has started, the daughter has started speaking to her Mum again, if only to ask for lifts to and from school.
Do other GN's wonder how some posters have got on?

GNhq don't like us discussing previous posters so this thread will probably be removed anyway but I think it was all because she called AR a tart.

Was that against guidelines?

Someone, or more than one someones, obviously took offence at that but, unless Angela Rayner was on the thread (which I doubt, better things to do!) it wasn't a personal attack.

She got a lot of deletions.
I dont suppose GN was happy about that.

And why would that be?
Lots of posters get lots of deletions but still continue posting.

Yes.especially when so many kind people offered advice

I miss GSM too and was thinking of her when reading this thread.

I had a longish gap when the daily Gransnet emails stopped - I don't know why this happened - then they suddenly started again and I found Germanshepherdsmum had disappeared. We had similar politics and she praised what I posted when Starmer became PM. I never found her abrasive but she stuck to her guns. Gabriella was interesting, I would have liked to have met her. Yorkshire Lass seems to have gone. There was someone very abrasive, a name something like Revolver. There were some very regular posters who have gone.

I am struck by the fact that most of the posts on this thread are about care and concern for others - which is heartwarming and reassuring. It is good that newfangled things like the internet enable connections with people we'd never meet or hear from otherwise and provides a way to connect with care and compassion. Yes - there are other kinds of posts and the people who post with negative comments also need understanding and compassion - though this is a lot harder I know. GN can be and often is a force for kindness.

Delighted to her your news Ferry. Many thanks for coming back and letting us know. Stay well!

No, GSM was still posting two or three weeks after the above comment.

I agree this thread shouldn't be all about banned posters, and previous threads, but sometimes things need correcting.

LovesBach Wed 10-Sept-25 14:53:08

Glad to hear from you, Ferry, and you certainly sound brighter.

I believe FannyCornforth coincided with covid. Her very gay personality comforted everyone, any time of the day or night. I know she spoke of family health problems but it was a sad day after the crucial covid problem passed, she told GNS she was leaving.

Yes, it is sad we don’t see Germanshepherdsmum anymore, the unofficial law adviser.

Nice of you to say so.
I still read occasionally but almost never post due to nasty comments usually, I'd say, to not having read exactly what I put. Sometimes I think people need an argument/need to vent. Maybe their lives aren't great at that time. But I don't need to be anyone's 'whipping post'.
Hello to all the lovely posters though 👋🏻

GSM was very helpful to many of us with her legal advice. I certainly miss her.

GSM was a kind, polite, helpful person.

I'd not say I miss her for her advice, which to me is self serving.

I miss her because she's lovely.

jobieP Wed 10-Sept-25 15:28:45

I wonder what the outcome was for the poster whose adult children wouldn't speak to her when she had a new relationship with a kind and caring man.

Yes you are right as I'd forgotten that there was another long running thread after the AR one. It was something to do with class and got quite nasty in the end.

jocork Wed 10-Sept-25 16:00:47

GSM gave good advice and though I never needed her answers myself I learnt things that may be useful in future.

It's good to hear updates about those who have posted in difficult times. Glad to hear you are improving Ferry!

I never knew Germanshepherdmum but if I were this particular lady I would consider myself truly blessed to have so many members remembering me whenever a thread like this arises.
She may not be on GN but her memory obviously lives on.
The majority of us will probably go unnoticed.

Another poster I very much miss is Gabriella Such entertaining posts, but again there were those who seemed to take delight in sniping and criticising her.
She quite rightly retaliated, so possibly was banned.
Such a shame.

I liked * Gabriella* I disagreed with alot she posted but I found her interesting and different.

Great news

Hello Shandy ! Your house downsize was an inspiration to me though I haven't managed to do mine yet.
I hope life is going well for you.

How could it have been self-serving?
How could her advice have advanced her own interests in any way? This is just a forum.

I’ve put this up before but it’s worth repeating.
If you have a friend on GN that you talk to through PMs exchange email addresses.
When/if you’re banned it is instant. If you haven’t exchanged emails there is no other way to contact.

Patsy70 Wed 10-Sept-25 17:14:11

I seem to recall that the last thread FannyCornforth started was to do with her asking for advice, as she was thinking of getting a dog. I may be wrong of course.

JenniferEccles Wed 10-Sept-25 17:22:35

I particularly loved Gabriella’s stories about how she was in the habit of putting together snacks for delivery drivers!

We only have to look at old threads usually resurrected by advertisers, to see just how many names we recognise who are no longer posting.
Sometimes I have been delighted to see a familiar name, only to realise the thread is a few years old.

Mt61 Wed 10-Sept-25 18:02:05

I think GSM voted Tory, I too was a Tory voter so maybe the left on here took a dislike to her- who knows 🤷‍♀️

JamesandJon33 Wed 10-Sept-25 18:16:16

Who was the incredibly funny poster, who wrote about putting her knickers on either sideways or backwards? . Her posts were so uplifting

kittylester Wed 10-Sept-25 18:32:59

Was that our lovely phoenix? Sounds as though it could have been.

She was banned for getting stuck into a person who lives under a bridge.
