Autumn is well on its way. Just returned from our holidays in Tenerife and I feel like I've come back to Autumn’ 🍁
Packed away my beach clothes into the case for next year! (Sadly)
All the ‘new seasons clothes’ are in the shops! Really feel like I need a sort out to see what I need for the winter. Not keen on online shopping but not many shops in my area unless I’m willing to travel, so probably order a few items from Next online. What’s everyone else doing 😂

I’m just swapping from t shirts and shorts to sweatshirts and jeans, I’ve bought a new pair of jeans, a jumper and a fleece from a charity shop. Otherwise I’ve plenty in my wardrobe from the last few years, my favourite jumper is ten years old.

Farmor15 Thu 11-Sept-25 15:25:21

Yesterday I heard someone quoting a bit of advice "before going shopping for something new, go shopping in your wardrobe!" I opened a drawer and found some sweaters I had forgotten I had. They were perfect for autumn wear, so I don't need to buy something new yet.

Currently, just adding another layer. I have bought some sweatshirts in the sale and a couple of M&S jumpers.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Sept-25 15:28:15

Wore a sweater for first time today, meeting friend for lunch😮

RosieandherMaw Thu 11-Sept-25 15:40:31

You’d never guess the season though from looking at what people are wearing around you
T shirts, strappy tops, sandals, sweatshirts, sweaters, bare legs, opaque tights, shorts and even fleeces.

Am afraid my old clothes from last year and probably the few years before that will have to do. And I bought good clothes made to last or good labels from a charity shop.
Am not a seasonal buyer.

Interesting this as I came out of work yesterday feeling chilly. Must get my wardrobe sorted.

woodenspoon Thu 11-Sept-25 15:51:39

The weather doesn’t help us. It fluctuates from hot to damp to cold. Do I need a coat or not? Yesterday I wore a waterproof Regatta jacket and was very glad I did when the heavens opened. On Tuesday it was a summer dress and sandals. I’m not packing my summer clothes away just yet.

janeainsworth Thu 11-Sept-25 16:11:12

I’ve bought a trench coat from La Redoute but that will be it.
Just starting the process of putting away obviously summery things & getting woollies out.

Youngnanny Thu 11-Sept-25 16:25:33

That’s what I do 😃 I practically live in jeans 👖

BlueBelle Thu 11-Sept-25 16:38:28

It’s not cold here still in my summer clothes I have a lot of warmer stuff but whether I like it enough to wear it again or not we ll see
Hate changing to my autumn/ winter wardrobe; all muffled up and shivering yuk

Greenfinch Thu 11-Sept-25 16:44:20

It’s not cold here in Berkshire either. Lots of people still in summer clothes maybe with longer sleeved tops.

madeleine45 Thu 11-Sept-25 16:46:29

I still have my sailing top and long john type trousers which are light but warm. That way I can put them on with my nice cotton T shirts and my linen trousers. They still look summery but are now warm enough to wear. If it turns very warm I can take them off easily at home or nip into a ladies and take them off there. I have a very lightweight but good mac that can be rolled up very small and goes to the bottom of my shopping bag and for chillier mornings I have about 6 I think, cashmere jumpers, one bought in a sale and the rest in charity shops. Again very lightweight but very warm when you need it. I am not interested in what the fashion or colour range is this years style, apart from occasionally seeing that my very old tank top is now being called a vest and is quite fashionable!! All I care about is feeling comfortable, not too hot , nor too cold and I like things to be colour coordinated or looking well together. I have done well if once I am dressed I dont think about it at ll. However one thing I do do at this time of year, is to put a pair of lightweight fleece gloves in each coat pocket and look out my small torch, so that if I get caught out being later than expected can put the gloves on and have the torch to see where my keys are and not be hunting in the dark for them.

Oh, you are a Gran after my own heart Babs03,
I have all the clothes I need for a good while now.
The only thing I buy are socks & underwear, plus new shoes, walking trainers mostly! (Very glam!)
One day I peered into my fullsome my wardrobe & I realised that enough was enough! If I do need something for going out-out,
I'll have a butcher's at O*f*m Online. It's a very good web-site with some great clothes plus they have regular sales. Being frugal makes me happy. "Money's not for spending !" as my Anut once said. 😊

Babs03 Thu 11-Sept-25 17:19:46

@Ilovedogs, I just don’t see why I should keep buying more clothes when I have enough from before. If I need something I will go on V***ed, or trawl the charity shops. You can get new clothes with the tags still on and with a good label. Also is more choice. But I always make things last, always have done, I just think clothes are comfier when you have worn them in for a while and why spend more money when everyday expenses are so high.

Witzend Thu 11-Sept-25 17:32:00

Several colder weather things were on their last legs, so I’ve invested in a new pair of jeans and a pair of olive jeggings, both M&S.
Could do with a couple of new jumpers, but hardly ever find any I like. 🙁. I want at least one long one, plain, with a roll neck. Found one online but it’s £££. Might drop a hint to dh for 🎄…
Meanwhile I’ve dug out the pure undyed British wool one I bought from Celtic a couple of years ago. It does bobble, and the sleeves are a bit baggy, but it’s very warm and cosy - and long enough!

Desdemona Thu 11-Sept-25 18:25:42

Well according to the press brown nail varnish is very fashionable this autumn so I will buy one perhaps (love painted nails.) I will also buy some black thermal tights from M&S.

Apart from that I am making do with winter clothes I already have.

Ilovedogs22 Thu 11-Sept-25 18:27:44

I love an old jumper and I have a lovely raglan-sleeve polo neck one.
Well! It was lovely, untill I shoved-it in the washing machine (I am a idiot!) with the normal -stuff by mistake! Luckily it only shank a bit but it now possess the delightful texture of a camel's bottom! 🙃

I still have a skin condition.
Can only wear certain clothes in my wardrobe.
I bought a new cardigan of a sort that I know is ok for my skin. I think that is it for this Autumn.

I'm about to do the "swap over" from summer to autumn/winter clothes. I'll just leave a couple of T shirts in the drawer and some lighter weight trousers in case we get a hot spell later this month (fingers crossed!)

I've made myself several sweatshirts, knit tunics and pairs of jogging pants/heavier weight trousers over the last couple of years, and I've got loads of jersey, fleece and sweatshirt fabric in my stash, so if I do fancy something new I will get sewing!

Also very excited that I can make my youngest GD sweatshirts, long sleeved tops, dungarees and pinafore dresses in heavier weight fabric for her winter wardrobe. Luckily, at only 2 1/2 she is still happy to wear her Nanny's hand-made clothes, unlike the 13 year old GD!

AskAlice Thu 11-Sept-25 18:57:52

Ilovedogs22 that made me giggle!

TerriBull Thu 11-Sept-25 19:04:20

I've had to resurrect my raincoat. I'm wearing socks around the house, as well as having to serve notice, for the time being, on my thinner baggy summer trousers and open toed footwearsad

AskAlice Thu 11-Sept-25 19:11:00

Terribull, I'm still sticking to my indoor flip-flops for now, but only because I spent two hours yesterday giving myself a very thorough pedicure and rough-skin removal and I can't bear the thought of my lovely soft feet and tidy toenails being hidden in socks and slippers! My back and hips are still suffering grin

Youngnanny Thu 11-Sept-25 19:45:52

Wow you make clothes, that’s amazing well done 👍
