I was so scared about having eye surgery that a hospital volunteer held my hand when I went into theatre for the first operation! Like everyone else, I just looked at the bright light above the operating table, and saw and felt nothing during the actual surgery. My surgery was to correct long-sight, and it has made a huge difference in that I just need reading glasses now, though, like another poster said, I find that I don't need glasses to read, say, labels on items in shops, or subtitles on TV, so definitely an improvement for reading as well. The teaching hospital that did my surgery seemed to be pushing to get the waiting list down, and I was offered an appointment for the second surgery one month after the first operation.
I wish I had thought of the suggestion to keep a note in the bathroom of the times to use eye-drops, as for the first two weeks I had to use two different eye-drops at different intervals.
Good luck. You will be so pleased with the improvement in your eyesight
