I've tried searching for previous posts about this but it just comes back nothing found.
So please can someone reassure me as I was told by my optician that they are both ready for surgery and has referred me, the wait is only 4wks she tells me (not sure if that will happen) anyway I know people say its a doddle but its having my eyes pinned open thats bothering me 😬 pretty sure lots of you have been there and lived to tell the tale so how did you cope?

I was so scared about having eye surgery that a hospital volunteer held my hand when I went into theatre for the first operation! Like everyone else, I just looked at the bright light above the operating table, and saw and felt nothing during the actual surgery. My surgery was to correct long-sight, and it has made a huge difference in that I just need reading glasses now, though, like another poster said, I find that I don't need glasses to read, say, labels on items in shops, or subtitles on TV, so definitely an improvement for reading as well. The teaching hospital that did my surgery seemed to be pushing to get the waiting list down, and I was offered an appointment for the second surgery one month after the first operation.

I wish I had thought of the suggestion to keep a note in the bathroom of the times to use eye-drops, as for the first two weeks I had to use two different eye-drops at different intervals.

Good luck. You will be so pleased with the improvement in your eyesight flowers.

You'll be fine tanith, let us know how you've got on, once it's all over, you will no doubt be like me just so relieved it wasn't the ordeal anticipated.

Best wishes.

nightowl

I know I’m lucky pably but I was told my eyes are now so imbalanced they can’t leave the second one very long. I’m extremely short sighted and have been since childhood, though no longer in one eye.

I wonder if it also depends where the procedure is done - I have a friend who was referred to the local NHS hospital and has been waiting more than a year for the second eye to be done. I was referred to a private hospital under the NHS and they seem to be much quicker. I suppose they are driven to do as many as possible as a guaranteed income stream. It seems unfair but privatisation is the way of things now I’m afraid.

probably nightowl, private hospital will be much quicker, I'm very pleased for you , luckily my husband hs just had a letter in to say that he has to see the surgeon next week...

Had my 1st cataract removed 4 weeks ago and the 2nd one yesterday. I was quite lucky as there is virtually no waiting time in Lancashire. I opted for a private hospital on the NHS - Fulwood Hospital under the care of a brilliant man Ray Radford. Monovision was my choice, one eye for distance and one for reading. As this is only my 2nd day I can’t say how good the procedure will be in the long term but I am so happy so far.
I have been cleared to drive without glasses which I find amazing. On day 2, my reading vision is beyond my expectations. As far as the operation itself, I was so frightened I made myself sick with fear. Now I think, what was I scared of ! procedure takes about 8 minutes each eye. My first thought was WOW isn’t everything so bright with vivid colours. I didn’t have any pain during or after just a little discomfort for a few days but nothing too much. Anyone worried about the procedure please just do it, it is so worth the few minutes out of your life.

My DH had his done last month. He was scheduled to have the second done about 10days later but they must have had a cancellation so it became 5days.
No problems.
He only had the standard lenses and is wearing cheap (£1.75p) glasses to read although he doesn’t seem to need them much.
