After the online thread I thought about some people I know who don't watch TV or read.I don't go out at night but might read, watch a series or do crosswords.

Now I’m on my own, I miss going out in the evenings either DH. . My friends are a mixed bunch of married and divorced and we see each most day, but daytime only. I miss DH’s company, even though he spent a lot of time away working or on his hobbies after retirement, but there was always a decent meal to make and I looked forward to his return and company.
Still, life goes on, so on summer evenings I might sip a glass of wine outdoors, while deadheading the roses or watering the pots and tubs. When I have DD2’s Little Dog with me, that fills in an hour, despite the season or what the weather’s up to.
Not a fan of the dark nights, so I do watch quite a bit of tv. A light sleeper, I go to bed around 1/2am and sleep until 6ish.

If I am not out for choirs I always have tv or radio on as I have tinnitus so can’t cope with silence. There’s rarely anything I particularly want to watch but I often watch programmes involving the emergency services, or royal palaces or gardens. I enjoy The Bidding Room and some antiques programmes. I am always on my iPad, browsing, on forums, playing games etc.

We watch tv together for a couple of hours, then DH will scroll his iPad and I’ll watch You Tube I prefer it to the tv these days. Bed at 9pm up at 5am

kitty smile I was waiting for the 'Do you think that's wise?' posts.

Apart from the news I rarely watch tv in the evening but listen to an audiobook while I knit. I do watch TV in the afternoons, but I tend to watch programs I have recorded rather than live tv.

We listen to music or talk to friends/family until about 8pm then watch a TV programme early to bed and read.

Samsara1 Mon 13-Oct-25 10:28:27

Mostly TV after clearing away dinner. Bed by 9.30 to read a book.

RosesandLilac Mon 13-Oct-25 10:48:00

I rarely watch television, never in the evening. I might do something arty, then have a long bath, or be in bed by 8 and read for a couple of hours or potter around in the garden during the summer.
I never go out in the evening and DH is generally snoozing in his chair or watching something on his phone. I certainly can’t just sit and do nothing!

luluaugust Mon 13-Oct-25 10:56:11

Either watch TV or FaceTime with one of the AC, I find it difficult to read or knit now without really good daylight. Bed around 11.30

I really just do what I want...

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Oct-25 11:04:44

I’m a lark - usually awake between 5-6am, so my evenings are pretty short, but just like everyone else I read, watch tv - relaxing stuff.

Rather mixed at the moment as we are at our own home during the day, supervising renovations and return to our DD's in the evening around 7.30pm, where we bed and breakfast. With her we tend to sit around chat, watch tv and read house decor magazines and talk furnishing - she too is doing up a rundown house.

However the CH installers are busy at work at the moment and the first tranche of furniture is due tomorrow, so within a fortnight we will be living in our own home again.

What will we do in the evenings then/ Well DH will slumber in front of the antiques programmes on tv and I will potter around doing during theevening much whatI do during the day, a bit of decorating, planning and organising Christmas, making curtains, sitting in front of my computer, orgnaising life. There rally is little difference between day and evening as far as what Ido at home goes.

I alway have this dream of being curled up in comfortable chair, with some nice classical music in the background reading something, but it never quite works out.

I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find something to watch, so I'm constantly browsing Netflix, Prime, BBC, ITV. Clearly too much choice, I swear I never spent as much time on this method of selection before, when there were only a handful of tv channels to choose from. I think I'm spending longer on this sometimes futile search, than actually watching the programme. On that I'm a frequent starter of a series and then losing interest with it after an episode or two. If I fail in finding something, then I'll listen to music or go to bed earlier with a book.

Kate 1949, kittylester and Fartooold, can I join the club!😂. Just finished The Escape Artist on Netflix, definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

Clear up kitchen maybe put on laundry if good drying in next day. Check emails and various forums for interests I follow. An hour or so of online bridge and then maybe an hour of some program recorded or on one of streaming sites. Nearer to bedtime, I have audiobook or podcast to listen to as wind down and get ready for bed. In bed I do a few puzzles on tablet then hope for some sleep with audio on timer.

I don't go out in the evening much but was out last week when my son came over.
I like to go for meals, theatre visits during the day now. Evenings are spent doing puzzles, texting and an hour of TV.

I live on my own, and frankly, prefer not to go outside unless I have to. I do meet up with a friend about once a month, and go out for GP appointments, dentist etc. I have a treadmill in my flat which I actually use most days. I record everything on telly that interests me, and each evening around 6 or 7 pm, I start watching whatever I fancy, (drink wine) and go to bed around midnight. I do have a standing appointment with 2 friends who still work - every Friday night at 5 pm we meet at our very small local pub and have great conversations for at least 2 hours. I realise that I need to socialise for my mental health, and treasure this meeting each week.

Friday evening is our local corner bar "tapas evening" with dear friends ..

Saturday evening, is our dinner evening out .. and sometimes theatre or the cinema.

During the week, we prefer to watch our fave t.v. programmes & / or read, write, catch up with dear ones on cell mobile or landline and just relax .. Prepare ingredients for our lunch the next day if eating at home ..

Sometimes, straightening up !!

We have our cleaning lady every Friday however, we do pick up after ourselves as well ..

I lie on the sofa with the dog surrounded by junk and clutter and watch decluttering programmes on catchup tv. Trying not to eat as I’m trying to fast for as long as possible. And with my arthritic knee attached to a tens machine. Methinks I need to get a life…hmm

Susieq62 Mon 13-Oct-25 15:02:59

Choir o WI on one evening! Theatre or dinner with friends now and again, knitting a blanket for OH so have to concentrate !! TV usually 9-10 unless I am binge watching something plus check emails etc. I read in bed every night ,
