After the online thread I thought about some people I know who don't watch TV or read.I don't go out at night but might read, watch a series or do crosswords.

Calendargirl Sun 12-Oct-25 20:11:21

I go on my I pad, watch tv, or read my library book.

I never do jigsaws, knit, crochet, sew, do any craft, or do crosswords or sudoku.

I do watch TV after dinner, usually until around 10:00, then off to bed with either a book or ipad.

foxie48 Sun 12-Oct-25 21:37:22

I watch a TV programme with OH, usually 19.30 until about 20.30, then I do my own thing. I might look at GN or something else online, paint, listen to music etc I'll often sit in bed and read or listen to the radio. I'm generally pretty tired as my life is nicely busy during the day but I rarely settle down to sleep before 22.00 or 23.00.

Three evenings a week we’re out, quiz, pub, Mr J bowls one night a week, occasionally out for dinner.
Otherwise TV, browsing the internet, chatting online, or with a phone call, doing my crossword.

Swim every evening.Home about 8pm,then knit and watch TV or something on Netflix on my IPad.

lixy Sun 12-Oct-25 22:14:19

Knitting usually; I have the TV on unless I’m doing something tricky. Sometimes I rad to give my wrists a rest.

If Gchn are here then we rarely have the tv on. We have played board games or cards with them since they were little. We have progressed from Ludo and Snap to Boggle and Rummikub now.

Scribbles Sun 12-Oct-25 22:14:59

I read; listen to radio or a podcast - sometimes while knitting; catch up with friends on the phone or WhatsApp; waste time reading social meeja; I may go out or catch up on ironing or prepare food for the next day. No set routine, it all depends on my mood.

ginny Sun 12-Oct-25 22:47:50

Out some evenings but if not a few favourite tv shows . Otherwise reading sewing, watercolour or some other craft.

merlotgran Sun 12-Oct-25 23:07:13

I watch TV and knit (in the winter) and often catch up with family and friends on my phone at the same time. I tend to read in the afternoons if I’m stuck indoors because of the weather.

Kate1949 Sun 12-Oct-25 23:11:26

Watch TV and drink wine 🍷

henetha Mon 13-Oct-25 00:00:50

I watch TV, play games on my phone, write lists of things to do this week, watch the news then go to bed and read or play more games on my phone or browse GN.

Having lived the Spanish life for over 50 years, I have an afternoon nap. This enables me to go to bed late. My friends all go to bed around 9 p.m and complain that they wake up around 5 a.m and can’t get back asleep. I wake up at 8 which is just right for me to catch the news. By the time I wake up my friends have showered, baked cakes and so on. We are all different.

Currently I'm binge-watching all past series of Death in Paradise in preparation for our holiday in November (though hopefully it will be murder free) 🏝️

Alongside this I'm doing two knitting projects for my grandchildren for Christmas 🎁

Once a week I have a zoom meeting and sometimes we go out to eat or the theatre. Otherwise I embroider , knit and watch tv - not that there is much worth watching these days. Late at night, before I go to sleep, I read . I also read gransnet and do word puzzles on my iPad. Would be in the morning for the uk .

friendlygingercat Mon 13-Oct-25 01:23:52

I sometimes watch Netflix or one of the streaming services but only for an hour. Any longer I lose interest. I usually sew or embroider at the same time.

I often do tasks related to my antiques business in the evenng - editing photos, doing descriptions, uploading to my various shops and answering any questions which have come in during the day. I am often up into the early hours (3-4 am) so I sleep in the afternoon. I also do some academic work which involves communication with other time zones (USA, Taiwan and Singapore) so I need to be awake when most Brits are asleep. I find it really liberating to be awake and able to work when others are asleep.

Last week men were doing noisy work outside breaking up the road surface so I went to bed to get away from the racket. I expect them to re-appear next week to dig the hole for whatever they are doing. I take very little interest in what goes on outside unless it impacts me directly.

I glue myself to the radio: BBC Radio 3 Unwind is bloody marvellous and promotes a perfect advertisement-free background while I read and read and read.

And read.

Ashcombe Mon 13-Oct-25 05:13:37

If I’m in a play (amdram), then I’ll be out at our Little Theatre (we have our own premises) rehearsing three nights a week for up to eight weeks in the run up to a week of performances. Recently, I joined a Choir which meets one evening a week to rehearse for a performance of Bach's B Minor Mass planned for next month.

Otherwise I might watch TV, especially quiz night on Mondays, read or do puzzles on my iPad although I generally like to do the latter in bed to unwind, usually about 10.00 pm.

JamesandJon33 Mon 13-Oct-25 05:49:59

I always watch Pointless before supper. Then we do a mixture of things, but hardly ever go out at night. DH might read or do family history research on his computer.
I write, so spend a lot of time just thinking about what comes next. Though we might watch something on iplayer or Netflix. We go to bed early ish and both read for at least an hour.

karmalady Mon 13-Oct-25 06:16:47

I watch youtube, old series mainly such as ` a horseman riding by` and at the moment I am knitting a complicated gansey jumper for ds. An hour before bed there are no screens, I will carry on knitting and then go into the kitchen to make it nice for the following day

When I have my sewing mojo, then I will work in my sewing room for the whole evening

There is a difference between I and we, I am widowed and always 1, so I do things I am comfortable with and which don`t upset my bedtime routine. I don`t read during the evening or I would fall asleep in a chair. I value my sleep

BlueBelle Mon 13-Oct-25 06:20:58

Haven’t been out in the evening for a very long time ( no car friends older or less fit, no one to go anywhere with really ) so
I m out of the habit and now wouldn’t want to go too much in the evenings
I watch TV, do a jigsaw, suduku or other puzzles while watching( unless it’s something really good), I nod off I go to bed about 11 pm and sleep on and off till 4 am
Simple but that’s me if I go to the cinema I go daytime

kittylester Mon 13-Oct-25 06:28:16

Kate1949

Watch TV and drink wine 🍷

I always knew we would get on Kate.

Pantglas2 Mon 13-Oct-25 07:11:58

I’m another home bird of an evening with Thursday bingo with a friend usually the only outing. Once a month I meet up with friends for a bite to eat at theirs or mine.

Cryptic xwords, sudoku, reading and a couple of hours watching a film before bed at 10ish suits us these days especially with winter coming.

Fartooold Mon 13-Oct-25 07:15:53

Kate1949 and kittylester May I join you I will bring a bottle!

Allsorts Mon 13-Oct-25 07:17:38
