I don't like Baileys - what can I drink?

As we near Christmas lots of people seem to get really excited about drinking Baileys.

I can't stand the stuff.

My tastes are quite boring in that I really only like chilled white, rose or prosseco.

Is there anything a bit more exciting (but not too complicated) that I might like to drink - and to celebrate the season.

What is your favourite drink at this time of year?

And yes I agree, that for me, Baileys is a sauce for ice cream, not a drink, but many people love it. I have given a home made version as gifts, but it must be refrigerated and consumed swiftly, because of the cream.

I have not had an alcoholic drink since last March, when I had too much Champagne, fell and broke my hip whilst on holiday in Australia! I now drink alcohol free Prosecco, rose or white. If anyone knows of a really palatable alcohol free wine, white, red or rose, please do let me know, I have tried so many and poured them down the drain, they are all just awful!

I agree. The only decent alcohol free drink I’ve ever found is the Freixenet 0% no-secco which is I think what you’re talking about. I’ve tried gins, ciders and wines but none are any good IMO. I’d rather drink sparkling water, to be honest if I’m not drinking alcohol.

Whisky (not usually a fan) mixed with ginger wine topped with a bit of lemonade and ice. Tried it about a month ago. Really liked it

Have you tried Sloe Gin with cloudy lemonade? Delicious for a Xmas drink?

RillaofIngleside Tue 25-Nov-25 14:24:30

Marmalade Liqueur, I adore it. But unfortunately have to get it from Snape Maltings, haven't found it anywhere else.

Love the idea of a Kir Royale made with raspberry liqueur instead of Cassis . Must try that one.
Crémant , which is similiar to Prosecco, is one of my favourite drinks, all year long.
The go-to spirit is Gin.
I can't stand the cream liqueurs either ,especially Baileys.
I agree that Kittylester can always stick with her year-long favourites if none of the suggestions take her fancy.

Applejuice! But then I do not drink alcahol.......

I don’t drink much and am not keen on Baileys either but I love champagne. Also happy enough with Prosecco or Cava if they’re decent ones, otherwise I add fresh orange juice. Some mulled wines are nice if they’re not too sweet, St Clements do some ready made ones, with and without alcohol which are a simple solution for a glass or two if you don’t want to make a panful yourself.

Ginger wine!

Daddima Tue 25-Nov-25 14:50:51

I like Lillet ( though not wild about the name!) but I don’t know how widely available it is. It comes in white or rosé.

WelshPoppy Tue 25-Nov-25 15:26:09

Cup of tea for me.

mokryna Tue 25-Nov-25 15:53:34

A good single malt whisky, no ice, which I can warm with my hands for a fuller taste.
I am allergic to champagne and most wines and beers.

Astitchintime Tue 25-Nov-25 15:59:15

A good whisky, single malt NOT blended with nothing else in it…….apart from another whisky perhaps! No ice and no water.

I LOVE Baileys, and there are different flavours now. I also like a snowball for Christmas. It helps you not to drink too much, because it is a long drink.
When I get home from my daughter’s on Christmas Day, I will have a hot chocolate with a drop of brandy in to finish off the day. I know how to live!
Have a wonderful time, everyone!

You sound like my type of person!

neat brandy

Loads of suggestions here, thank you all so much.

I have just been to Sainsbury's for a browse and have decided that I really enjoy my Rose so i'm going to stick with it. Occasionally, I might have a rose prosecco- my girls and I all like Kylie's.

But, I am going to order a mixed box of cocktails and try those too.

Champagne and good dry white wine (champagne a rare but real treat )

Beechnut Tue 25-Nov-25 17:59:57

I’ve just bought a bottle of Italicus. Can be drunk with Prosecco but I’ve not tried it yet.

M and S (other shops are available ) Aldi even...have small tins of cocktails or ready mixed drinks, you could buy a couple of those and then it's not too much to waste if you don't like them?

annifrance Tue 25-Nov-25 20:47:31

I don't like Baileys, but chocolate Bailey's is yummy.

Champagne and Kit Royale made with Framboise.

CanadianGran Tue 25-Nov-25 21:12:01

Daddima, I just tried Lillet and soda for the first time yesterday at book group. It was really nice. I hadn't heard of it before.

CanadianGran Tue 25-Nov-25 21:12:27

Oh, and I just found out it is pronounced lee-lay.

Sleepyhead52 Tue 25-Nov-25 21:44:23

Wonderful, as long as the mixer is brandy!
