What are you afraid of about the Souter Hebrides? Stunning places - but January could be a challenge weather wise, (and unlikely to get to St Kilda)

The journey is the only worrying part StoneofDestiny . Bus and ferry in January. I'll let you know how I get on.

I'm still puzzled by the liberty bodice thing.
Sounds victorian.
Why would children dress like that??
Why not just wear a vest or T-shirt as underclothes in winter ?
My mother was born during first world war. Never heard tell of L B from her. Nor her sister.
?maybe it's a regional or class thing?
Seems strange I never heard of it in real life.

Taken illegal drugs.
Nor wanted to.

A liberty bodice was worn instead of a vest, I think. It was actually very comfortable and warm, with a fleecy feel. I wore one in the 1940s, when I was under twelve. It was absolutely no hardship.

Wellbeck my mother wouldn’t let me have a liberty bodice. Mid 1950s. She said they were common!
