Tinnitus just doesn't sound like Santa's sleighbells!

I’ve had it for years. It’s a constant high pitched hiss overlaid with the sort of whine an old wireless used to make. Most of the time I can “tune” it out but sometimes at night it’s very disruptive.

I've had it for years too. Like you, I can usually tune it out during the day, trickier in bed at night. Sometimes sounds like the drone of distant bagpipes!

I’ve had it for years and the Audiologist says there’s no cure……simply have to educate your brain to not listen to it apparently.

I have an app on my mobile that plays a selection of sounds that help to distract my hearing of the noises that I hear which are different in each ear. Very useful at bedtime when I’m trying to sleep .

I’ve had it about 30 years. I only really notice
it when everything is very quiet and then sometimes it’s disturbing.

Mine is a high pitched whine. The only tune I don't hear it is when wearing my hearing aids.

A friend said that wearing his hearing aids helped. Similar to ClicketyClick

I've had it, 24/7, since 2007. It's a hissing sound, with a "radio interference" as well.

Another one here in the tinnitus club. It arrived about 30 years ago, I wondered what the heck it was. The GP arranged a scan to check for abnormalities, none found and I was sent off to try to ignore it. I can a lot of the time, harder when I’m tired, it gets louder in the evenings. I liken the noise to a car ir maybe a motorbike idling in the distance, more a rumble than a hiss. It only really annoys me when it gets in the way of listening for burglars when I wake in the night. 😂.

Oh yes I have the dreaded tinnitus, for years and I am sure my hearing aid exacerbates it. It annoys me but luckily does not disturb my sleep, but I do have an audible book, podcast or something on and the tablet is on the pillow beside me. Some days are worse than others, I usually have the radio on all the time

It's interesting to hear how many others have it. I can tolerate it a bit but if it does n 't subside I can start to feel as if I'm literally going out of my mind.
I try to ignore it, listen to music, sing to myself etc. But it gets impossible to feel normal.
It's such a relief when it diminishes. I've had it for 2 days non-stop this time!

Yes. I've also had it for 30 years. Mine is a mid pitched constant hiss. If I put myself under a lot of stress, then a whole appears, and odd clicking.

I have found if I deliberately breathe deeply and especially loosen my jaw muscles the clicking and the high pitched whine goes.

ove the years, yes, I have learnt to actually even manage to "hear" the silence in the country side on a peaceful day.

But if you are fortunate then de=stressing does lighten the load.

Expensive hearing aids have helped as I need them anyway - I'm presuming the better hearing aids sort of by passes the tinnitus

Like others mine is a high piched hiss. What does annoy and upset me is I often can't hear the birds singing in the garden in the morning.
Most of the time I can pretty well ignore it.

I also have it, and have had it for years. Sometime it seems worse than other times, but that is when I am thinking about it - like now. Buzzing noise, difficult to describe.
I use a 'white noise' thiong on my phone when going to sleep to block/distract the noise, and that works for me.
I don't know when it started, but probably around end of menopause. It can make me feel miserable, especially when I am upset about something. Keeping my brain occupied, reading, sewing, podcasts, music, radio - anything that will help. Wish there was a cure, but there is not.

I have tinnitus, as well. It’s mostly a high-pitched whistle, which gets louder/quieter at random times. I can date it to the day it began, when I stepped off a flight from New York to London in August 2010. At the time, I assumed it was just from the cabin noise on the plane and it would go away, but it never has. 🤷‍♀️

I too have tinnitus, I’m not sure how long I’ve had it as it’s not constant. To me it sounds like static hiss on an old radio and I can hear it as I type this comment.
Like others on here I don’t notice it during the day but some nights, like tonight, it’s very bothersome.

I have it but mine's a low tone, a sort of deep thrumming like a ship's engine.
Don't get it at all when I'm wearing hearing aids, but it can be a nuisance if I wake in the night & can't get back to sleep.

So sorry you’re dealing with tinnitus constant ringing can be exhausting and isolating. I’ve found brief relief focusing on calming audio or masking noise. Trending sounds on a soundboard or sound board free tools, sound buttons, soundbutton clips, even a meme soundboard unblocked can distract.

Me too….. had it for more than 30 years. A high pitched whistling, whooshing and crackling constant noise.
I have to have a radio on a timer, when I go to bed otherwise in the quiet the tinnitus is even louder. It’s only in one ear and I hope it stays that way.

Yes! hissing, whining, whooshing, clicking, squeaking and crickets chirping. It's random and intermittent and I can go weeks without it happening. I mostly tune out.
