Are heated throws worth buying?

We have one made by Carmen that we have on the foot of the bed over the top of the duvet. We put it on before we go to bed but switch it off once in bed. It stays warm for quite a while and keeps our feet nice and warm. I’m sure it would be just as effective over your knees during the day but haven’t tried it.

I used to use hot water bottles during the day time, and recently got one of these Silent Night heated throw a few weeks ago. It was on special at Morrisons for £25. The advertising says it runs at a 1p per hour. Just waiting for the electricity bill! The throw has 9 settings. I went mad the first few times of use, but do find that the first setting of 1 is more than sufficient - and there have been some cold days. But I also have a fleece blanket over the top of the throw over my knees. It is large enough for two to snuggle under. The throw has a safety thermostat that switches off after about 2 hours. The throw does stay warm for some time afterwards. In all, much warmer and more convenient than two hot water bottles. Hope my experience helps.

My husband made me a hot water bottle back in November. It was hot and caused a terrible burn on my heel which is only recovering. I bought a heated throw from Dunelm for about £30 and it works well.

I’ve got one bit don’t use it much but then it doesn’t get that cold here except maybe a couple of weeks a year. Mine was from Aldi years ago, cheap as chips, as they say.

I ve got one, that I don’t use much , I just prefer to use my hot water bottle I don’t know why

I bought my husband one a couple of years ago and he’s been delighted with it and uses it most of the time when sitting in the cooler months. He thinks it’s so much more convenient than a hot water bottle which loses its heat and only warms a small part of the body.

We’ve recently bought a spare one in case the first ever stops working.

I’ve got two. I hardly use them, because I prefer to keep the entire house warm. If you’re under the throw and then get up to go to the kitchen etc the cold hits you.
If you’re sitting down to read a book , then that’s fine. I hardly read books - just too scatter-brained for that.

I have one and I wouldn't be without it. My heating is on from 5.30 to 6.30 in the evening and since I've had the heated throw I've never had to boost it during the evening. It heats up quickly, and has 9 temperature settings but even in the coldest of weathers I've never had to have it higher than 3 . Love it

Yes, I love mine. When it's very cold I have one on the bottom and one on top. I turn myself into a sandwich and stay there all day.

Very cheap to run too.

I love mine! DH doesn't feel the cold as much as me so I sit under mine and leave him to freeze. I rarely have to have the heat on but it's there for when/if I do.

I bought one for my 91 year old MIL for Christmas. After initial doubt she loves it!

My son bought one for me 2 years ago. It’s lovely and warm and feels very cosy to use. But I seldom use it because I find it too cosy. It sends me off to sleep sitting in my armchair 😴

I occasionally use it as a traditional electric blanket to warm the bedlinen for an hour before bedtime.

During the recent spell of cold weather I bought a Silent Night Heated Throw.
It is efficient and cosy. I used it mainly while waiting for the house to heat up first thing in the morning and after the heating went off in the evening. I'm very pleased with it's performance. Mime is the single size, but two people could share it spread over knees and legs.
I noted from the instructions that for safety reasons the throw should not be sat on or laid on. It is for over the body or over the bed use only.

I bought one a while ago but I must be thick because I haven't got to grips with the control despite following the confusing instructions. It isn't a well known brand, I chose it for the colour to match the sofa! I have therefore gone back to my hot water bottle and blanket.

Love mine. It really does keep me toasty and reduces my reliance on my central heating. I just need to find a way to keep my nose warm now.

I’m still mulling it over, but it seems to be the consensus that they are worth investing in.
A few of you have opted for the silent night one - is the cord length a reasonable length?

I've had one for four years and wouldn't be without it. Once the temperature drops I use it on a daily basis to keep nice and cosy whilst watching TV or sitting to read. It's cheap to run and must save us a fortune as without it I'd have to turn the heating up, we live in a big old house with large rooms. Our dog loves it too!

Definitely.

But have to admit, we havent used ours since Nov. For various reasons.
But the previous year and the one before that, used it more.
I wouldnt like to be without ours.

We love our heated blankets, my DH especially, seeing as he is now disabled and can’t move without help he can easily get cold even when the heating is on so I put it across his lap and legs.

Sitting on one at the moment! I work from home and the office is quite chilly during the day. I drape the throw over my chair and either just enjoy the warmth under me or wrap it round my legs if I feel a bit colder.

Happiness is a warm bum.

I bought mine from Lakeland a good 15 years back. 3 heat settings, warms up quickly and very toasty. Wasn't cheap then but has been worth the money. You can use it as an overblanket on your bed as well.

I love mine so much that I now have 2,1 for each seating area of my living room.
Visitors to my home have been so impressed that they have bought them for their own homes.
A huge bonus point is that my cat loves lying on top of my throw when it is covering my legs so it's 2 for the price of 1
