That’s money well spent, my mum used to say.

In terms of improving your happiness/ enjoyment/ mental well-being/ quality of life what have you spent money on to best effect?

Holidays, mostly, but sometimes just a small amount of money spent can make a difference.
Last year I bought a lovely coat in the sales for £40.
Or my airfryer, which cost about £45.

Our beautiful cats ( although still miss my gorgeous Amie who can never be replaced!)

Books and my two magazine subscriptions which bring me endless pleasure and are read from cover to cover and puzzles all done

Saltwater sandals which are quite expensive but are so good for your feet if your mobility and balance is not good, like me.

My really really comfy electric recliner chair. Helps my painful back & eases the pain. Worth every penny.

I am rather ashamed to say this, as I now know they are not a ' green' choice at all - but when DH and I bought one we lived in the country and had access to free fuel. I am talking about the smallest woodburner in the world, which kept our living room cosy all winter. It cost £500 and lasted us 20 years.

My heated throw for those cold winter days when I want to curl up in the afternoon with a book.

Definitely my conservatory. I had it built just after my husband died so that I had another room to sit in and not be surrounded by memories. It cheered me up then, a little bit, but as time passed I use it for so many things. Fantastic value.

We had the same issue but with rats!
Bought an Only Cat ai cat flap that won’t let them in if carrying prey! Not cheap but money well spent!!! It definitely works!
Whilst we had rats one ate the inside of an american fridge freezer … not a cheap thing to replace!!

I don't have a cat any longer but that Only Cat flap sounds like a real winner, though it's a bit out of our price range....
Our mog used to bring in live rabbits and seagulls amongst other things.
I'll have to let my daughter know, her cats bring in presents for
Bit out of our price range though.

Pure goose down pillows and duvet.

My Omega watch. Had it when I was fifty and it’s coming up for twenty years old. Love it.

I bought an expensive mixed breed trendy designer puppy 8 years ago. She's wonderful. Wish I had also bought her sister. Best money ever spent, best dog ever.

Good cotton bedlinen & soft pillows, expensive mattress.
I've always economised on bedlinen & had Ikea matresses & thought they were OK - but the past few years I do buy more expensive ones and love that blissfully comfortable feeling.

Conservatory for me too, I love it! So light and my happy place. Best money we ever spent !

My cedar greenhouse. It cost a fortune (well to me anyway!) about 20 years ago but the joy it brings me everyday is worth every penny.

Sago

A Thermomix, worth every penny.

Same here!!!
Also I would say that my 3-tier heated clothes dryer has been a lifesaver for over 20 years.

I have just ordered a pair of sunglasses with lenses the same strenght as my ordinary glasses.

And for the first time ever, I did NOT hear that little voice in my head that sounds just like my dear, departed Mummy, saying "Could you not just have bought a clip-on pair to attach to your glasses. It would have been cheaper".

I know that, but I am fortunately able to afford proper sunglasses and they have RED FRAMES, mummy, dear.

That's right, I'm a thrawn, unbiddable child who will aye gang her ain gait. And surely in my 75th year, I am old enough to make up my own mind about this. No answer required.

I am so looking forward to my new sunglasses, plus new, stronger lenses in my ordinary ones - the reason I went to the optician.

Might she be hinting that you are eating wrongly?
😁
She lives here now and so far hasn't found a mouse but did try to catch a squirrel this morning.

Allira your H has settled in well.
He doesn’t mind the rules, tea brought to bed precisely at 8am.
Preparing a light lunch provided I cook in the evening and he loves the rule my H and I had, a well chilled G&T at exactly 6pm.
How is Molly settling, do you provide Butler services as I did which means howling by the front door for it to be opened while ignoring a perfectly good cat flap in the back door?
Do you want to swap back?

Yes, I trained him well, UTTB!
He won't want to come back here. He has to cook in the evenings sometimes chez nous.

Molly decided I'm a tough nut to crack, she found the cat flap because I was too busy sorting out a difficult pattern and it was pouring with rain outside. She is sulking on the best chair now.

I love my cat to bits, she is my best ever Christmas present.
I just wish she would listen when I tell her *NO MORE MICE THANK YOU*

Surely, you prefer her to rid the garden of mice, rather than have all those little furry pests moving into your house next autumn?

Make a big fuss of her when she brings you dead mice - they are meant as presents for you. Make sure she understands that you prefer dead mice to living ones. Then, with a little luck, and a very great deal of perseverance on your part, the penny will drop.

My queenie cat brought live mice in, and gave them to her brother until I realised that the cat food I was giving them was the reason he had lost nearly on the upper layer of his fur on both flanks. Once I changed their diet and his fur grew back in again, she stopped bringing him live mice.

You really cannot beat the female instinct to mother those .you love, can you?

Might she be hinting that you are eating wrongly?

I discreetly gather the dead mice she give me up in a non-transparent rubbish bag and take them out to the bin, when Trubel is not nearby to see how I dispose of the mice.

My InSinkerator near boiling water tap (which delivers exactly that and nothing else) is the best thing ever! We love not needing a kettle on the worktop too.

Essexgirl145 Wed 15-Apr-26 15:05:47

We had a cat like this, actually it's a compliment, she's a hunter and she's bringing you food. Love her.

Lizbill Wed 15-Apr-26 15:01:45

Wow! Bargain, where did you get them from? Last pair I had from Boots cost over £600.

Cardamom Wed 15-Apr-26 14:51:24

I had an 18 year old Dyson vacuum cleaner. It worked perfectly but, oh boy was it heavy. Carting it up and down the stairs was an accident waiting to happen but, when I started having a look round for cordless, stick vacuums, the prices were well out of my reach. Just last weekend, someone posted on our Facebook group that they were getting rid of a Miele cordless stick vacuum; full working order, all attachments included: £30. It's in fab condition, very much lighter than my own and would cost £379 new. Best £30 I've ever spent!

DrWatson Wed 15-Apr-26 14:40:52

For UsedtoBe and her mouser cat.
She is just trying to say thank you for being a good human.

We're on cat #8 these days, spread over about 30 years. Most don't bother with birds and mice, the present one barely goes out (has to be warm & sunny!).

We had a big idle ginger chap, he found a mouse to play with once, but in general he couldn't be bothered with anything that required more than a gentle amble. And the local birds all knew him, carried on at the bird feeders even as he wandered past, or snoozed nearby.

Sadly if they DO bring 'presents', it's very hard to tell them that something from the off-licence would be better?!

Before Christmas I bought a pack of five stick on rechargeable under cupboard lights for my kitchen. I’ve always wanted under cupboard lights and feel very excited every time I walk in and they pop on. Grand total of £25 😄

This is just what I want, would you mind saying where you got them from, thanks

Oh my little Yorkshire Terrier got from a rescue centre at 8 months old and is now 13
