I’m doing a presentation on the 1960s and thought I’d start it off with a typical piece of music.
As the talk is of life in England - our experiences and recollections, I’d like to be a British group or singer.
Thank you

Sunshine of your love - Cream
If Paradise is half as nice - Amen Corner
Lily the Pink - The Scaffold
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac
Je t'aime - Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg
Where do you go to my lovely? - Peter Sarstedt
Streets of London - Ralph McTell

I think The Beatles are the most iconic band of the 60s.

There were so many others, but they were the ones who revolutionised pop music and were most famous.

For me it has to be a Beatles song for the sixties, so Hey Jude gets my vote.

I'm into Something Good - Herman's Hermits. I know it's not psychedelic or "Hippy", but then not all the decade was dominated by Flower Power! Every time I hear it it seems to take me right back to the 60s. Released in 1964.

Or "Flowers in the Rain" by The Move - first song played on Radio 1.

I was a child in the sixties, and the one I remember best is My Generation by the Who, probably because the words resonated the most at the time.

Everlasting love - The Love Affair
Nights in White Satin - The Moody Blues

I love 60s music, it takes me back to a time and a place, loved ones no longer with us...
I always start my Saturday with Tony Blackburn's Sounds of the Sixties on BBC Sounds. I listen to Greatest Hits Radio 60s in the car. Isn't it great that we know most of the words and can sing along to these classic songs?

Great thread, thank you.

There are some classics here, and many of them have stood the test of time . Not British, of course, but I have mentioned before that " God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys is " their song" for my youngest daughter and her husband. They left church as newly weds to it.
She was born in 1989.

Yes that’s true.
I think all their songs sum up the 60’s don’t they?

Oreo Sat 16-May-26 18:56:11

I like all their songs sum songs by The Kinks as well.

Oreo Sat 16-May-26 18:57:09

I like all the songs by The Kinks.

Hearsay Sat 16-May-26 19:02:39

I not sure if you can single one out really . Any Beatles or the Small Faces or Dusty Springfield so many amazing songs that summed up that era

Romola Sat 16-May-26 19:24:26

John Lennon and Paul McCartney, just geniuses. I was 18 in 1963 and went to London University. It was a magic time, there was so much amazing music.
My dad, a professional classical musician, remarked then that the Beatles songs would be played in a hundred years' time.
