Follow up to my Holiday Dilemma

Sorry if this is boring now, but Smileless, mthe friend didn;t offer to reimburse me, she said categorically she would give me the cost of the holiday but afterwards made no mention of that.
I won't prolong this any more, thanks for your thoughts etc
and although it was a lot of money to lose I haven't missed out as it were, as I have travelled extensively all over the world. Thanks again.

Youngerthan….. I would most definitely have gone on my own. I do all my holidays on my own, it’s exciting! I try to go to a different country each year. You never know what friends you’ll make on the way. Life is SO short and you can’t get that time or opportunity back!

I once went on a holiday with some friends ... it was a singing holiday.

For months beforehand I had been massively busy organising a huge concert with massed choirs in an international festival. I had been going around teaching the music and also dealing with composers and other performers as well as practical issues about staging etc. The night before we left I had conducted the concert which was a big success.
I left for the holiday on a high, but the next day I simply collapsed, emotionally and physically and had to take myself back home.
Big financial loss as it was a week long residential holiday with excellent tutors.
I had to bite the bullet on the loss, as you have had to do 44Youngerthanspringtime. But sometimes you just have to go with your gut. It clearly did not feel right for you and you need to write it off. As you say "C'est la vie."

I’d have definitely gone on my own, also I would have taken her up on the offer of reimbursement of the money.

Thanks, I have gone on my own before as I did say but just didn't feel in the right frame of mind.
She refused to put an insurance claim in and made no mention of reimbursing me in any way so I' ve just written it off to experience. C'est la vie!

At the top of the thread, it was ‘Ask a gran’, so I assumed that was what the OP had posted under before, and I looked back on that forum.

If the ‘Search’ facility works, you could try it also, but it doesn’t work for me, nothing comes up, so I have to think of other ways to find things.

Had she also left it to the last minute so will be losing £1k also. I couldn't have been able to cope with the uncertainty and would have had to have made a decision before departure day. Who needs that unnecessary stress?

As it is, I can't understand why on earth you didn't just go on your own. I am in my 80s and mostly go abroad on my own, its great!
But as I have no idea what you're really discussing I can't comment.

It seems your friend has health issues which meant she was undecided about going, but had offered to reimburse you the cost of your holiday, but you didn’t expect her to.

If that were me, I would have needed to know earlier whether or not she was hoping to go, I couldn’t have left it up in the air until departure day.

I can appreciate why you didn’t want to go on your own.

Disappointing obviously. Lesson learned, no more holiday plans with her.
