Go and treat yourself to a new one and chuck the rotten thing out ! Make sure it is broken ,though ! I bought a new air fryer recently and worked out ( eventually) there was nothing much wrong with the old one but someone had switched it right down so low it didn’t heat. Ah well, the new one is much more modern and has 2 drawers.

Yes sometimes having a moan is good Madeleine, have you checked the fuse as it could have blown and needs replacing?

I chucked the iron a long time ago and only buy clothes that don’t need ironing or don’t look too creased if you hang them up after washing.
So my advice is chuck the iron for good 👍

Gosh, Madeleine I remember you buying that iron!! Definitely check the fuse before buying a new one. If it's not a fuse problem I think it is worth taking the iron back to the shop as it shouldn't have failed in such a short time.

I haven't ironed anything since 2018. Maybe some curtains now and then, except I can't climb up to get them down any more.

I nearly ironed some summer tops this year but they smoothed out quite well by themselves so I didn't bother. Honestly, I don't think I look a wreck. I remember ironing trousers and jeans years ago, I'm not sure why.

More summer clothes need ironing- cotton, linen etc. I have a pile waiting, including clothes I need for a holiday and curtains ready to rehang.
I hope this thread hasn’t jinxed my iron.

I’m another who never/hardly ever irons.
Nicely folded or hung does the job. Only very few things need a quick press.

I iron most things, especially bedding, cannot imagine getting into a bed with creased bedding. I also wear a lot of cotton and linen which has to be ironed in my opinion.

I never iron and my hubby sports the ‘crumpled look’ well, I do feel guilty sometimes but not enough to iron!

I don't like to remind you that they come in 3's. My toaster popped 3 weeks ago and a few days later the washing machine flooded the floor. I had to use most of the towels, duvets and sheets to mop it up. I'm anticipating the 3rd calamity...I almost want it to happen soon to get it over with 😭

I find ironing quite relaxing and always have, even when I was up to my eyes with 4 kids at home and 2 jobs. We’re all different.

I try to keep on top of the ironing and have managed it this year. If you do it strajght after drying, it's easier and there's less to do. So far this year, I've kept to that system - no longer do I have overflowing washing baskets of clean washing waiting to be ironed and getting increasingly crumpled as the days wear on.

I do have a washroom in the cellar, though, so it's fairly cool. I plug my earphones in and choose a nice podcast and off I go.

If you haven't had the iron long, the guarantee should still apply - you might not need to buy a new one!

I do the ironing while I watch tv. I do each for about an hour a week. Currently the ironing gets done while watching Sewing Bee.

Update on the iron saga. Having checked things out and given up in disgust, then about 3pm suddenly thought to check, and Argos was open until 4pm, so got the yellow peril out and went down there. Shop was empty and pleasant staff lady helped me. I explained that what mattered was having one in stock right then rather than choosing and them not having one. So with her help was triumphant and was able to come back with new iron, checked instructions etc and then was able to get the job done. Plus point, was actually not faffing around looking for cheapest, best buy etc., and sorted.

Today the sun is already high in the sky and so am pleased with my efforts and have a choice of whatever I want to wear now! I wear mostly cotton , and have very sensitive skin, so it is worth the effort to feel comfortable.

I guess a lot depends on the materials you choose and whether you go out much. Cotton will obviously need ironing but my sheets are polyester and cotton, which look perfectly fine with a bit of a smooth. My clothes strangely don't seem to need ironing, must be the materials although nothing has a plastic look or feel. I remember a nylon blouse I had many years ago, and nylon uniforms and how uncomfortable they were. How did we cope doing a day's work dressed in plastic?

I don't think that I have done any ironing for about 18 years (since working in an office). Into the tumble dryer for 10-15 mins & instantly wearable. If not, consigned to the charity bag!

I do have a current dilemma, though. Curtains have been in a packing case for aeons. Cannot be hung until ironed. I can't do it. Have googled several services but no reply. I refuse to pay for cleaning which is not necessary.

I actually love ironing but can only do about 6 or 7 things at a time then I get back pain. Have to rest for an hour then do a bit more. My DD never irons anything never has. She just steams anything really creased

If you only bought the iron recently and its a dud maybe go back to retailer get replacement or refund? im trying to channel that Alice Beer from the telly what would she say??....
